    Ulster 12-10 Lions

The Lions hit back as EW Viljoen knocks over a 40-metre penalty.

It's dead centre but he strikes it so well on a rare calm Belfast night.

It goes over the bar two seconds before the 40-minute mark. We'll get going once more.

    Ulster 12-7 Lions

Ulster finally, finally, finally get their second try. James Hume has an easy finish in the right corner.

Will Addison is again key as he breaks towards the line. He's brought down by several red and black shirts, but Billy Burns sprays a lovely, long pass out to Hume, who has the easy job of diving over the line unchallenged.

Nathan Doak adds the conversion. Ulster lead with four minutes to go until half-time.

They've come away from the Lions den with seven points.

    Ulster 5-7 Lions

Oh nooo! That should have been a second try for Ulster.

Nick Timoney and Alan O'Connor power their way into a really promising position.

It's quickly recycled to the backs. Billy Burns, Will Addison and Ethan McIlroy all show really quick hands. David McCann is the last man out on the wing, but the big back row spills the ball with the line gaping.

He looks to the skies as the chance of his first Ulster try bounces away. Big chance.

Ulster are going to need to keep changing their angles and getting runners off the shoulder, because at the moment when they resort to crashing forward the Lions are eating them up.

The visitors are big boys and look very solid defensively and at the ruck.

Ulster have spent a lot of time in the Lions' half but are struggling to make any significant inroads.

    Quote Message

The scoreline isn't unreflective of the game, both sides have had their phases, but you want something going into half-time.

It's an easy game from up here, but I would like to see Ulster show a little bit more ambition on the kick receive. It's a mindset but as the game goes on there could be more opportunities there.

  10. try

The Lions are patient as they go through the phases deep in the Ulster half.

After several burrowing attempts by the forwards, they visitors spray the ball wide and Stean Pienaar is on the end of the move to jog over and level the game.

EW Viljoen, key in the Lions' try, adds the extras from the tee.

Everything had been stuck in the middle of the pitch but Will Addison has got the Ravenhill roar going with some superb footwork to break into the Lions' 22.

He's a bit late to enter Strictly, but that was nice stuff.

  18. try

Trypublished at 19:40 British Summer Time 15 October 2021

What a start for Ulster! They've caught the Lions napping!

Rob Herring throws a short line-out to Andrew Warwick, who shows quick hands to pop the ball up for Nick Timoney, who then has the relatively simple job of crashing over from close range.

Nathan Doak steps up but he pulls the conversion wide. Ulster are five up after five minutes.

And now Ulster have won the penalty with the visitors straying offside.

As has often been the case this season, Billy burns sticks it in the corner.
