Newcastle look rubbish, to use a Peter Wright word. They look very poor and it’s been incredibly easy for Glasgow, but the game is not dead. Can Newcastle be as hopeless in the second-half? Glasgow need to hit them with another couple of tries and put them to bed.

  2. HALF-TIME Newcastle Falcons 3-19 Glasgow Warriorspublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

    Aaaaand that's the half.

Glasgow have been impressive, but they might be annoyed they couldn't build on their electric start with more than the one try, although Kyle Steyn and Ali Price have been very impressive in attack.

Newcastle have had one attack of intent, with the ball lost on the line.

Their fans won't be too happy. A place in the quarter-finals is at stake remember.

Bodies are strewn across the Kingston Park astroturf just before half-time.

Ryan Wilson is down, as is Scott Cummings - the scrum-cap has been removed so he is almost definitely coming off. Wilson is back up at least. Rob Harley is the substitute lock on the bench.

The Newcastle medics are also taking their time with former Warrior Greg Peterson - it looks like a neck problem.

Some very scrappy play from both sides, as Glasgow take two quick tap penalties and lose the ball in the first contact - twice.

Danny Wilson will be furious with that. Basics, basics, fundamentals.

Glasgow have their third! Josh McKay!

It all starts with a superb break from Kyle Steyn, who almost goes coast to coast. Ali Price has a four-man overlap but goes short and it looks like the chance is gone.

However, the Warriors keep up the phases - just - and eventually Price darts through, offloading to McKay to canter over.

A penalty for Newcastle Falcons now... we think Rory Darge has been pinged for a high tackle on Josh Basham.

Brett Connon - the Scottish-qualified fly-half - splits the posts and gives the hosts their first points of the evening.

An odd moment there as Simon Berghan takes his boots off on the pitch.

The referee orders him off - and he isn't stopping play. It's not an injury so I suppose, why should he?

Glasgow will temporarily be down to 14 men. Really strange move from the Scotland tighthead.

This goes back to ruthlessness. Glasgow should be 20-0 up, with the game over and thinking about the next round. The Falcons could get back into this and Glasgow would be kicking themselves

Oh Ali Price! Sublime from the scrum-half.

He picks up from the back of a scrum and goes blind, shimmying past his defender and running for the line. He's caught a few metres short of the line before the vital pass is intercepted. So unlucky!

Glasgow concede another penalty, this time in their own 22 metres. It's early doors, but Newcastle have gone for the corner. They need to make up that ground.

The maul is held for a time before it splinters. They go wide and look certain to score - but it's slapped back by a Glasgow hand! Sam Johnson clears! Big let-off.

First scrum and Newcastle win against the head, big shove by the Falcons. Their first positive moment of the match!

Also, Ryan Wilson was binding at number eight there. Unsure why they've given him the six shirt or whether ultimately... it doesn't matter.

Newcastle had a throw and effectively their first possession. What happens? They throw it to Glasgow who charge up the pitch.

The visitors carve through again, but the referee pulls them back. They had an advantage though, so they keep the ball. The bad news is that Sebastian Cancelliere has taken a sore one, and the physios are looking at his knee.

    And another! Kyle Steyn!

A throw on the right, Glasgow ship it out to the left through the backs and they exploit the space, with Sebastian Cancelliere with the final pass to Steyn, who slides into the corner.

A hard kick for Ross Thompson, and he can't convert from out wide.

Crikey, the Warriors are putting the Falcons under real pressure here. Sione Tuipulotu puts a huge hit in midfield, the loose ball is then hoofed down field and the hosts are penned back in their own 22 metres.

Sebastian Cancelliere also puts a huge hit on Ben Stevenson, who is now receiving treatment. It's a much improved start from the visitors.

What a start! Champagne rugby from the Warriors!

Warriors have it on the 22m, there's some beautiful hands and tidy offloads and Ali Price is able to pop over to Johnny Matthews, who bounces over. Ross Thompson adds the extras.

Newcastle Falcons v Glasgow Warriors (20:00)

We are very close to getting under-way in the North of England, as every single one of our Sportsound team wax lyrical about Rory Darge.

He is good, in fairness. Apparently he will play as more of a blindside than a number eight this evening, despite the number on his back. That came straight from head coach Danny Wilson, I should add.

  19. Wilson seeks 'inner belief' on roadpublished at 19:56 British Summer Time 15 April 2022

Newcastle Falcons v Glasgow Warriors (20:00)

Glasgow Warriors head coach Danny Wilson tells BBC Scotland: "They’re a Premiership team who’ve had some good wins this season. They’ve got a fair amount of gas in that back-line and a very strong midfield. We’ll have to be top of our game to get an away win.

"We’ve made some huge strides this year, we’ve got to a place where we’ve been top four for the majority of the season. Those strides don’t mean anything if we don’t close out the end of the season.

"We’re not hitting the panic button. The next step for us is to win more games on the road. We have to find that inner belief."

Glasgow have lost a couple of games recently that have been particularly poor - Cardiff and Scarlets. They’ve won two games out of eight on the road - that doesn’t fill you with optimism. The flip side is, when they get it right, they’re an entertaining team that can be ruthless. You don’t know what you’re going to get with Glasgow
