The Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux is a nice, tight stadium and it should be an intense atmosphere come match time. It's already hosted Euro 2016 games and, more importantly, Guns n'Roses and Muse a few years back, and has five matches in the World Cup later this year.

Exeter have been inconsistent this season, but the looming salary cap and the departure of several stars means this feels like a last tilt at glory for a talented squad that have delivered down the years.

"The narrative of this second half of the season has been all about those players who are leaving," says coach Rob Baxter.

"But what people forget are they are still here at the moment. Sam Simmonds is still here, Joe Simmonds is still here, Stuart Hogg, Jack Nowell, Dave Ewers, Jannes Kirsten, they are all still here and playing.

"They have not gone and they are still capable of getting on the pitch and playing like international quality players.

Can defending champions La Rochelle make it to a third consecutive final? Exeter’s only Champions Cup semi-final appearance in 2020 saw them make the final which they went on to win, of course, so this really does feel like a titanic struggle in the offing.
