A dominant display from Saracens to deservedly take their place in the Twickenham final on 27 May.

Apart from a brief spell in the second half, Northampton got little change out of their opponents.

Now Sarries can put their feet up as Sale and Leicester square up tomorrow afternoon to see who joins them.

That promises to be a belter.

We'll back at 14:45 BST tomorrow with the build-up to the action at AJ Bell Stadium.

Thanks for your company today, and hopefully you can join us again then.

In the first half especially, Saracens were very clinical and Saints played the wrong game.

In the second half they came out and their attacking flair caused problems for Saracens.

I don't think Maitland should have been on the field to score their first try - it was a minimum yellow card when he took Furbank out in the first minute - and in the second half the critical score was the penalty try but Owen Farrell was a foot in touch at halfway so it shouldn't have got to that position.

No complaints about how good Saracens were, but it could have been, it might have been but it wasn't Saints' day and now their season is over.

  3. 'Unbelievable effort to keep them out in first half'published at 17:42 British Summer Time 13 May 2023

    Saracens 38-15 Northampton

Saracens scrum-half Ivan van Zyl told BT Sport:

"I have to give credit to the boys today. To keep them try-less in the first half, such a good attacking side, was an unbelievable effort.

"To get to the final is great and for us, going a season unbeaten at home is brilliant."

Saints put in an admirable effort in the second half.

I don't think they were good enough to beat Saracens today but they were good enough to give them a fright in the second half.

They did not go down without showing considerable fight and spirit.

Northampton captain Lewis Ludlam told BT Sport:

"What's important is we move on and build on this season. We now go away for five weeks and when we come back, we have to come back hissing and use that as fuel for next season.

"It's not easy losing semi-finals two years in a row, but we have to come back better."

Former England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Saracens will be able to sit back and have an enjoyable Sunday afternoon watching Sale and Leicester try and slug it out.

They were good today, they were ready for Northampton. Northampton came with a plan but as it proved, it was the wrong plan.

They ran into wall after wall of Saracens defenders close around the breakdown, they didn't get any quick ball and they couldn't get any width to stretch the Saracens defenders as they have most defences this season.

Conversely, Saracens showed some lovely shapes, some guile and they always felt they had Northampton at arms' length.

Saints got it back to an nine-point gap and you thought Saints might make it a nervy last 10 minutes if they scored again but the final score probably reflects the game.

A grim statistics for Saints fans.

Northampton have played in 11 Premiership semi-finals. They have won only TWO of them.

Saracens really did slice Northampton to ribbons at times in the first half.

When they have options available to them and they're on the front foot, it's not one-dimensional stuff, with multi-dimensional, multi-phase.

Saracens were ahead from the seventh minute when Sean Maitland crossed for the first of his two tries.

And from that moment, they never looked like being overhauled. Better in defence and attack and worthy winners as they complete a whole season unbeaten at StoneX Stadium.

It's the end of the road for Northampton Saints.

Northampton think they have gone over with David Ribbans but Saracens stand resolute and do brilliantly well to get under the ball and stop the try.

That is strong stuff from Sarries.

That's typical Saracens, they know the game is done but they want to keep going to the last minute.

That's champions' mentality. They keep playing hard, sticking to their fundamentals and doing it so well.

    The icing on Saracens' cake!

With a man advantage, Saracens open up and as Elliot Daly hits the line, he frees Max Malins to sprint away and the England winger touches down in the corner.

Just for good measure, Owen Farrell converts from a very acute angle.

The Saracens squeeze forced Northampton into the error. They drove them into the corner with a 12-man maul, it was either concede a try or gamble. Northampton gambled and Saracens got a try anyway.

Jamie George look set to touch down after some strong mauling from Saracens, but he is prevented from doing so as Tom James comes in from the side.

James is given a yellow card and referee Karl Dickson awards a penalty try after a conversation with his TMO.

    Is that Saracens Twickenham-bound?
