You can see the dejection on the faces of the Leinster players as they walk up to receive their losers medals. It's a very different picture for the winners.

    FT: Leinster 26-27 La Rochelle

Leinster's Tadgh Furlong speaking on BT Sport: "We are gutted, we put a lot into it. I thought we started very well but we lost our way a bit, third final in a row we have lost, it is not great.

"We had a few starting plays that worked a treat, but they hung in there and really put the squeeze on in the second half and we didn't quite match it.

"It hurts, it really hurts. I am so disappointed for the fans."

La Rochelle's Will Skelton speaking on BT Sport: "I'm really proud of the boys. They said we couldn't do it, come to Leinster and win, but we did.

"Leinster are a world class team and we had to dig deep. At 17-0 down, we still had the belief.

"We had to adjust and find it within ourselves to come back and we showed some character."

  8. 'Deeply disappointing' for Leinsterpublished at 18:44 British Summer Time 20 May 2023

To play in Dublin, Leinster's backyard and be so far behind in the first few minutes, and to come back, credit to La Rochelle.

They scored at the right time, they ground Leinster down like last year.

Whilst Leinster defended heroically, that wore them down and they couldn't attack.

La Rochelle scored some good tries and dominated Leinster up front. Their bench was stronger and their big players stepped up.

Leinster felt the loss of Johnny Sexton and James Ryan, they looked rudderless in the second half.

They needed calm heads at the end with their chance, but they didn't take it. It is deeply disappointing but I don't think they can quibble with the result.

    What a game.

Leinster flew out of the blocks to score three tries in the opening 11 minutes.

It looked like there would be no way back for the French side. But they dug deep and showed all of their class to win by the barest of margins.

La Rochelle have beaten Leinster for the second year running in the biggest game of them all.

You can't argue with a red card when a player is being stretchered off. It is the right decision from the referee and La Rochelle have the ball and should see it out with a man advantage.

Ala'alatoa has not mitigation and he's sent off. Colombe is stretchered off the field.

Any score now should win it for Leinster, but they have to be patient.
