  1. Kick-offpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 29 July 2023

    Australia 7-19 New Zealand

Wayne Barnes blows the whistle and we're back under way again.

What words of wisdom did Eddie Jones impart on his players during the break I wonder?

Australia need to get on the scoreboard first to have any chance of getting back into this.

  2. Half-timepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 29 July 2023

    Australia 7-19 New Zealand

The score looks much more favourable if you are an All Black supporter now, as New Zealand take a handsome lead into the changing rooms.

But until past the half-hour mark Australia were in front and had acquitted themselves well, coping with a yellow card and an injury to their captain.

However, the All Blacks struck twice in the closing stages, as they so often do, to put themselves in pole position to win the game and the Rugby Championship.

Lots of work for the Wallabies to do in the second half.

    Will Jordan (con Richie Mo'unga)

The All Blacks do get a third before the break!

Their relentless attacking has reaped dividends as the power through the middle before going wide.

Richie Mo'unga just gets the pass away before the tackle to find Will Jordan to score.

Jordan has 23 tries in as many tests.

That is a big blow to the Wallabies.

    Australia 7-12 New Zealand

Very close to a third All Black try!

Australia can clear but New Zealand are already back on the offensive.

  5. Alaalatoa injury for Wallabiespublished at 37 mins

    Australia 7-12 New Zealand

The sin-binned Marika Koroibete is back on but there's more bad news for Australia.

Today's captain Allan Alaalatoa is not going to be able to continue.

The big man needs help getting off the pitch and that's not a good sign, not only for this game, but with the World Cup just weeks away.

He has a very disconsolate look as he is driven away for treatment.

Taniela Tupou is as good replacement as any though, he is a wrecking ball and can make a big impact for the Wallabies.

  6. converted try

Australia 7-12 New Zealandpublished at 34 mins

    Cody Taylor (con Richie Mo'unga)

    It has been coming.

Hooker Cody Taylor finds Scott Barrett with a five-metre lineout and then joins the maul to push it over the Australia line with the help of his pack.

Well-executed set play by the All Blacks who have put their opponents under huge pressure.

The Wallabies just couldn't quite hold out with 14 men.

Richie Mo'unga slots the conversion this time around.

  7. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Australia 7-5 New Zealand

Good defence again from Australia - it has to be!

New Zealand move the ball wide quickly after Cody Taylor bashes through a few tackles.

Mark Telea spots a route to the line but it's closed quickly by the Wallabies defence.

Can they keep them out until the break?

  8. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Australia 7-5 New Zealand

Half-an-hour into the game and it hasn't really slowed down since kick-off.

An All Blacks error lets the Aussies off the hook this time but they will have to work overtime to keep their opponents out while they are a man down.

They're coping with the pressure well for now though.

    Australia 7-5 New Zealand

    It's not going to count.

But Australia are down to 14 as Marika Koroibete is yellow-carded for playing the ball while in an offside position.

    New Zealand will come again.

  14. Missed penaltypublished at 13 mins

    Australia 7-5 New Zealand

The early try they conceded aside, Australia have been very good.

They're taking the game to the All Blacks and earn themselves a penalty.

But the 22-year-old fly-half Carter Gordon miscues from the tee and the chance to extend the lead is missed.

  15. try

Australia 7-5 New Zealandpublished at 8 mins

    Rob Valetini (con Carter Gordon)

After a lot of checking - the try is awarded!

Great response from Australia to hit back after conceding so early.

The big number eight powers over and places the ball on the line.

Wayne Barnes is happy and the try is given.

Carter Gordon kicks the extras and the hosts are ahead.

  16. Try reviewpublished at 6 mins

    Australia 0-5 New Zealand

And now the Wallabies think they have replied through Marika Koroibete.

What a start to the game!

Well, Koroibete's try isn't now going to stand as he is clearly in touch.

But... we're not checking an earlier possible try from Rob Valetini.

  17. try

    Trypublished at 3 mins

    Shannon Frizell

    Nightmare start for the Wallabies!

Australia have a line-out five metres from their own line - they win it but Tate McDermott is absolutely smashed by Scott Barrett and loses the ball over the line.

Shannon Frizell is first to react to dot down the ball and score the opener.

    Richie Mo'unga misses the conversion.

    Away we go.

Australia need a big performance tonight if they are going to beat the All Blacks who look like they are getting back to somewhere near their imperious best with the World Cup on the horizon.

How they would love to get one over on them today.

    This should be a cracker.

There are about 80,000 fans inside the MCG tonight.

The home supporters have given the Wallabies a huge welcome as they take to the pitch.

Anthems to come - that should crank the atmosphere up further still.

Kick-off is obviously a little delayed!
