That's all from me tonight - I'm away for a well-earned nightcap after all that drama.

You can read Andy Burke's match report right here, and we'll be back in a couple of weeks for Scotland's final warm-up game, against Georgia at Murrayfield.

    Until then, goodbye!

  2. 'We're fit enough to have a real crack at WC'published at 22:20 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    FT: France 30-27 Scotland

More from Townsend on Amazon Prime:

"I've not had much time to think about [the final World Cup squad]. I was really proud of the 23 tonight and how they went about taking on a top side.

"Their focus was on winning the game, and not on the World Cup - they put their bodies on the line, and the effort they've put in over the last two months showed on the field. We're fit enough to have a real crack at this World Cup."

  3. 'There's so much more to come' - Townsendpublished at 22:17 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    FT: France 30-27 Scotland

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend on Amazon Prime:

"I'm really proud of the effort, and how we started the game. We were ambitious, accurate, physical, and we had to soak up a lot of pressure in that first half when we were a man down.

"We missed the first five to 10 minutes of the second half, and France got opportunities. I'm proud of the effort, the togetherness, the skill, and we're gutted that we didn't get anything out of that. It shows a lot for the character and competitiveness of the group.

"It's disappointing that we didn't win it. Even a draw would have been something we could take more positives out of. There's so much more to come from this team.

"We showed in the first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes that we can win ball, our set piece can be strong and also we can attack and score great tries. We have to do that for much longer."

  4. Scots beaten but far from brokenpublished at 22:11 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    What a Test match!

At one stage it looked like Scotland would be swept away in a blur of French brilliance, but one thing we have learned about this team is they do not throw in the towel when the chips are down.

The way they worked themselves back into the game was seriously impressive. The defeat will sting just now, but to give the World Cup hosts - and one of the tournament favourites - such a run for their money will do this group no harm whatsoever before they return here for the real action next month.

  5. Player of the Matchpublished at 22:09 British Summer Time 12 August 2023

    FT: France 30-27 Scotland

Scotland winger Kyle Steyn has been named player of the match.

"Pretty devastated," he said, speaking to Amazon Prime. "We came out chasing a good start, and we got that.

"We said we had to come out second half and do the same and unfortunately we didn't do that.

"Really proud of the way we fought back. It shows our fitness levels and how competitive we are. We've got to keep chasing that consistency.

"We played really well for 70 minutes, but for five minutes after half-time we let them in, and you can't do that against teams like France.

"Chuffed with [two tries] away from home, but ultimately gutted for the boys. There was a hell of an atmosphere here, but excited to be back in front of our fans against Georgia."

Ahh, the ball goes forward at the lineout, and France cling on to win a brilliant game of rugby.

Scotland looked down and out, but could have snatched it at the death there after another stirring fightback.

Will they look for a drop-goal, or go for a try to win it?

The clock ticks into the red, but Scotland win a penalty after Gael Fikou takes out Rory Sutherland off the ball.

Sutherland is down injured after that shot in the kidneys, so we'll have to wait for the conclusion to this remarkable game.

If nothing else, Scotland have proved tonight that they can mix it with the world's best before the World Cup.

George Horne has been superb off the bench in both warm-up games against France, playing with pace and purpose, and his work there to create the try was superb.

He was the heartbeat of Franco Smith's impressive Glasgow side last season too.

If Ben White isn't fit, would you start Horne at scrum-half against South Africa?

    Let's see those thumbs.

    SCENES!!!

George Horne darts down the blind-side and drops a gorgeous little grubber kick into space down the line.

Kyle Steyn races on to it, and dots down in the corner despite the attentions of Gabin Villiere.

Finn Russell's conversion slides wide, but there's stunned silence in Saint Etienne - Scotland have come from behind again.

    Rory Darge

    Game on!!

George Horne has injected real pace into Scotland's attack since his introduction, and with quick ball, the visitors are getting over the gainline with real consistency.

When France infringe at the breakdown, Finn Russell taps-and-goes quickly, and from the subsequent phase, Rory Darge dives over to score.

The conversion is good - Scotland need another try still though.

France come forward, but Scotland keep their shape well in defence, and win a penalty that Finn Russell kicks to touch.

The players are really feeling the pace out there in sweltering conditions.

Huw Jones' kick flies out on the full, and both sets of forwards take their time in setting up for the lineout.

  20. try

    Duhan van der Merwe

    Here come Scotland!

Huw Jones looks up and sees two tired defenders in front of him in the defensive line, shows-and-goes, and bursts through.

Damian Penaud somehow drags the Glasgow centre down just short, but Sam Skinner plays scrum-half and flings a long pass to the waiting Duhan van der Merwe, who has the simplest of finishes in the corner.

    Finn Russell's conversion slides wide.
