    Better from Edinburgh.

You sense this is a chance they have to take.

More slick play in midfield from Dragons sends Jared Rosser into the Edinburgh 22, and a blatant infringement (again) at the breakdown gifts the hosts a penalty.

Edinburgh didn't mark up, Corey Baldwin was all alone and it's a clever kick to find him.

    Corey Baldwin

A fully deserved second try for Dragons.

The hosts go through the phases, suck in the Edinburgh defence, and a cross-field kick finds Corey Baldwin in acres of space.

All he has to do is fall on the ball, and he does.

Cai Evans' conversion is good and the lead is now 14.

    Dragons 7-0 Edinburgh

Another penalty goes against Edinburgh at the breakdown after a Luke Crosbie carry.

Angus O'Brien kicks to the corner.

    Big chance...

    Dragons 7-0 Edinburgh

Edinburgh counter-ruck superbly, force a knock-on and will now have a chance to clear their lines.

    Dragons 7-0 Edinburgh

Young Edinburgh full-back Cammy Scott is left stranded in possession, and Dragons get over the ball to win a penalty.

The hosts kick to touch and will have a good chance to add to their lead.

    Dragons 7-0 Edinburgh

Dragons have been excellent so far, pinning Edinburgh back and playing the game on their terms.

They are almost in for a second try after a clever cross-field kick found Jared Rosser, but his pass inside couldn't find Sio Tomkinson on this occasion.

  9. Postpublished at 6 mins

    Dragons 7-0 Edinburgh

It's been a sloppy start here from Edinburgh.

Mark Bennett loses the ball in contact and gifts possession back to Dragons.

Dragons got Edinburgh on the back foot, before Jared Rosser is brought into play.

He takes out three defenders and plays a nice one-handed pass inside to Tomkinson.

You could not have wished for a better start.

    Sio Tomkinson

What a start for the hosts!

Jared Rosser runs a great line, bursts straight through the Edinburgh line, before finding Sio Tomkinson in support.

The centre races under the posts to score, and Cai Evans adds the extras from bang in front.

Both head coaches have been talking to Viaplay Sports ahead of kick-off.

Dragons head coach Dai Flanagan: "We're as ready as we can be. Decent pre-season, but that doesn't matter now. We've got to start turning tight games into wins.

"Pre-season has been a bit tougher, a bit more disciplined. Our home form is really important to us - teams can't look forward to coming here."

Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt: "Really excited to get on the field and see what the guys can deliver.

"Ben Healy will help with our goal-kicking, and we've worked hard at the breakdown over pre-season.

"The guys that we've brought in are in positions that we were short."

Dai Flanagan took Dragons to the European knockouts in his first season and managed to double their number of league wins from the previous campaign - though that was still only four.

Flanagan has managed to retain the bulk of his squad while the arrival of Wales pair Dan Lydiate and Cai Evans could be smart business.

A takeover in the summer has brought a wave of positivity at Rodney Parade, as demonstrated by winning both their pre-season matches, but they have been the bottom Welsh region in seven of the past eight seasons.

Dragons will also need to make the most of playing four of their first five games at home.

  19. 'What Edinburgh have delivered has been lamentable'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 21 October 2023

    Dragons v Edinburgh (15:05)

    Tom English
    BBC Scotland's chief sports writer

Everybody ready to go again? The disappointment of the World Cup a distant memory? Time to steel yourself for another United Rugby Championship campaign.

Edinburgh, under the control of new coach Sean Everitt, kick off their campaign with one of the softest openers they could have hoped for - away to the Dragons who finished 15th of 16 in the last two seasons.

The men from the capital finished a dismal 12th last season, five places below where they finished in the previous campaign. Against the big three from Ireland and the South African giants they registered a winning return of a big fat zero.

They have a good squad peppered with experienced international players and splashes of genuine class. What they've delivered in the last number of seasons has been pretty lamentable.

Edinburgh have been punching well below their weight and Everitt, formerly coach of the Sharks, is now charged with reversing their fortunes.

That's right folks. The URC is back, and with Wales and Scotland both out of the ongoing World Cup, attention turns to the new club season.

Dragons host Edinburgh at Rodney Parade, with both sides looking to improve upon disappointing campaigns last season.

Kick-off is 35 minutes away, so let's get to it.
