That's all from me on live text duties today.

Scotland were superb in that second half, and it gives them a real chance of winning the inaugural WXV2 title.

All eyes now turn to Italy's clash with USA tomorrow.

Thanks for your company this afternoon - enjoy your weekend!

Scotland head coach Bryan Easson is the next to give his thoughts:

"We knew that Japan were going to come out of the traps and it was a tough first half," he said.

"At half-time, we said to stick to our processes and play in the right areas. I couldn't be more proud of this group - they have worked so hard. Six wins on the bounce now and that's testament to the work they have put in.

"We've got some good youngsters coming through and that has pushed the standards up. We just want to kick on now."

Scotland captain Rachel Malcolm has also been talking post-match:

"We've got a team filled with inspirational women, we've got a management team filled with incredible people," she said.

"We've done everything in the last 12 months to turn this team around, and we had a lot of people that doubted us. I hope they are watching now.

"We have worked so hard to get here, and this team deserve the every single high. It's been a fantastic tournament, an incredible experience."

Just in case you were wondering, Italy will have to score four tries and win by 25 points tomorrow to beat Scotland to the WXV2 crown.

    FT: Scotland 38-7 Japan

Scotland fly-half Helen Nelson has been named Player of the Match, and while she was impressive, I think Emma Orr has been robbed there.

"That first half, we really had to fight," Nelson said.

"So proud of the girls to ride that out. We had the wind behind us second half and really showed what we can do."

The ball goes to ground, and that is full-time in Cape Town.

An excellent second-half performance sees Scotland win their sixth game on the spin, and they have done all they can in pursuit of the WXV2 title.

    Emma Orr

    Yes they can!

It's a brilliant line from Emma Orr, taking the ball at speed, and she goes over for her second try of the game.

    Some player.

Meryl Smith's conversion comes out off the post, and we'll just about have time to restart before the clock goes red.

    Scotland 33-7 Japan

Scotland now win a penalty at the breakdown, and Meryl Smith kicks into Japan's 22.

Can Scotland finish with a flourish, and maximise their points difference?

    Scotland 33-7 Japan

Japan aren't giving up the ghost, but they just cannot find a way through Scotland's defensive line.

More great line-speed forces a knock-on and Scotland can clear their lines.

  10. converted try

    Sarah Bonar

    Another brilliant score!

Doddie Weir was once described as a 'mad giraffe' by Bill McLaren when he was in full flight, and Sarah Bonar resembled the late, great Scotland lock here.

A poor Japanese kick is pouched by Scotland's number 19, and once she opens up her stride, there's no stopping her.

Meryl Smith adds the extras and the lead grows further still.

Meryl Smith is on for Helen Nelson after that conversion, and her first act is to belt an excellent clearing kick to touch.

    Lana Skeldon

This time the lineout functions perfectly, and Scotland barge over for their fourth try of the game.

Lana Skeldon directs proceedings at the back of the maul and darts over to score.

She then holds the ball on the tee for Helen Nelson, who bangs it through for another two points.

    Scotland 19-7 Japan

Japan do get the ball out of the scrum, but cough up another breakdown penalty, which Helen Nelson kicks to the corner.

    Scotland 19-7 Japan

The lineout is normally so reliable for Scotland, but it doesn't work here, and Japan have a chance to clear.

They will have to win the scrum first mind.

    It's all Scotland now.

Emma Orr wins a penalty at the breakdown, and Helen Nelson kicks into Japan's 22.

This is a big chance to secure a bonus-point try.

    Coreen Grant

    Over they go!

Some lovely hands exploit an overlap out wide, and Coreen Grant has a simple finish in the corner.

Helen Nelson's conversion is short on this occasion.

    Here come Scotland.

They are within touching distance of the Japanese line, with a penalty advantage to fall back on.

Scotland are really dominating at the scrum.

It was what brought about their first try, and now another penalty goes their way.

Coreen Grant came on moments ago to replace Francesca McGhie, and now Sarah Bonar, Jade Konkel-Roberts and Caity Mattinson are all sent into the fray.

A brilliant read from Lisa Thomson sees her intercept right when Scotland looked in trouble.

Quick hands take the Scots into opposition territory, but the ball goes to ground as Mairi McDonald looks to go a bit too quickly from the back of a ruck.
