Summary

  • Edinburgh have won four from five in URC

  • Bulls sustain second defeat of campaign

  1. Penaltypublished at 18 mins

    Edinburgh 6-7 Bulls

Sergeal Petersen almost catches Blair Kinghorn in the air, before conceding the penalty at the ruck when Kinghorn is eventually snagged.

Edinburgh go up the line... and win another penalty. Marcell Coetzee is off his feet at the ruck. It's a shame, after the massive clear-out from Gerhard Steenekamp that knocked over Ben Vellacott like a skittle.

Ben Healy has another chance. No mistake. Edinburgh have been allowed straight back into this game.

  2. Penaltypublished at 15 mins

    Edinburgh 3-7 Bulls

First penalty Edinburgh have had tonight, and we're 15 minutes in. It's in kickable territory...

Ben Healy lines it up, and gets Edinburgh's first points of the night. Exuding confidence after that winning drop-goal last week.

  3. Missed penaltypublished at 12 mins

    Edinburgh 0-7 Bulls

Edinburgh pinged at ruck time, with Blair Kinghorn in an offside position. Johan Goosen lines it up from distance, but it's way off target.

He's not reading the breeze in the capital particularly well at the moment.

  4. converted try

Converted try - Edinburgh 0-7 Bullspublished at 9 mins

    Davon Williams

    Disaster strikes!

From a solid line-out, the Bulls make their charge and Johan Goosen grubbers to the corner. It should be an easy gather but Blair Kinghorn spills.

Williams is the beneficiary, falling on the ball for the first try of the night. Goosen's conversion smacks the post and goes over.

It's all going the Bulls way.

  5. Missed drop-goalpublished at 7 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Bulls

Edinburgh launch their first attack of the game from the base of the scrum. They go right then shift it left, through the hands before Mark Bennett stabs on.

There's too much on it though, and the covering defender touches down.

The drop-out comes to Ben Healy and lines up the drop-goal - again! This one slides wide to the right at the last second though.

  6. Missed penaltypublished at 2 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Bulls

James Lang doesn't release in the tackle, and after only a minute or two, the Bulls have a chance to take the lead with a penalty in Edinburgh territory.

Johan Goosen lines it up, but he's kicking into a tough wind... yup, he's dragged it wide. Edinburgh get away with one.

  7. Kick-offpublished at 0 mins

    Edinburgh 0-0 Bulls

The flags are waving, the Edinburgh side have emerged from the smoke machine, and kick-off is mere moments away.

The Pretorians are already out on the pitch, awaiting the side that are looking to knock them from their perch.

Chris Busby is the referee, and his whistle gets us under way.

  8. Everitt pleased with 'process' ahead of facing 'flying Bulls'published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2023

    Edinburgh v Bulls (19:35)

Sean Everitt is relieved to have some "consistency of selection", telling the media through the week: "It's been a process - integrating players from a week-to-week basis and get them to understand how I see the game being played."

"I think the guys have adapted well and we saw glimpses of that against Connacht on Saturday, when the guys were really good. There's only three changes this week compared to five last week and a host of them the week before."

"[The Bulls] have a good power game, especially with the acquisition of a guy like Wilco Louw, so we are going to have to be good up front to withstand the pressure. But, in saying that, we have been playing really well and believe we've got a good opportunity to turn them over here at home."

  9. Bulls changespublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2023

    Edinburgh v Bulls (19:35)

South Africa prop Wilco Louw is the only survivor in the pack from Bulls' win away to Cardiff last Friday, while Johan Goosen replacing Chris Smith at fly-half is the only change among the backs.

"It's just normal rotation," director of rugby Jake White insisted. "We would like to keep guys fresh and also give guys opportunity because they have trained hard in the pre-season."

Hooker Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Scotland-capped back Jaco van der Walt, who left Edinburgh this summer, are set to feature for the men in blue for the first time this season off the bench.

  10. Edinburgh changespublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2023

    Edinburgh v Bulls (19:35)

Scotland captain Jamie Ritchie returns from injury to start for Edinburgh against Bulls on Friday, with new signing Ali Price poised to be handed a quickfire debut from the bench.

Back-row Ritchie has not played since being injured in Scotland's World Cup finals defeat by Ireland but is one of three changes made by Sean Everitt from the side that defeated Connacht in the URC on Saturday.

Co-captain Ben Vellacott starts at scrum-half after his try-scoring appearance as a replacement against the Irish side. Charlie Shiel, who started that game, misses out.

Meanwhile, Scotland prop WP Nel returns to action after being rested last week, with Javan Sebastian dropping to the bench along with Tom Dodd.

    Edinburgh v Bulls (19:35 KO)

Welcome to the Hive Stadium as Edinburgh face possibly their sternest test of the nascent season - league leaders Bulls.

Sean Everitt's side will be buoyed by the dramatic win over Connacht last week, when Ben Healy's last-play drop-kick ended the Irish side's 100% record in the United Rugby Championship.

The Bulls have the same record as their hosts, but with three bonus points and 154 points scored, they sit top of the pile.

Let's have a look at the teams...
