  1. Good night!published at 21:54 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

    FT: Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

So after all that, Benetton leapfrog Edinburgh who drop to sixth in the URC table.

It wasn't to be a fairytale ending for Blair Kinghorn at the Hive Stadium, or for Ben Healy - who looked so sure of nailing his trademark game-winning drop goal.

It's Edinburgh's first loss at home this season, and now they must visit Ulster next week. Ooft.

Will they bounce back, or will it be two defeats on the spin? Join us then.

  2. Everitt says Edinburgh 'beat themselves'published at 21:50 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

    FT: Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

Edinburgh senior coach Sean Everitt tells Viaplay: "Really disappointing after our first half-dominance. We had three tries over the line, we just couldn't get the ball down. We had a chat at half-time about sticking to task, and then allowed them in for two soft ones.

"Disappointing, because we beat ourselves this evening. Maybe a lesson there, because we've been winning these games for the last fortnight, so back to the drawing board.

"Can't fault the effort the guys put in at the end, unfortunately the drop goal didn't go over but it shouldn't come down to that.

"It's about finishing opportunities. We had a bit of bad luck today, Duhan rolls into the poll for example. When teams get into our 22m, they tend to get over the line. They ran over us."

  3. Benetton 'deserved' to winpublished at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

That's a big win for Benetton on the road after narrowly losing last week to Glasgow. In the first half, they were similar to how they performed last week.

The second half was much, much better. They controlled field position, their discipline was good - up until the red card - and they deserved their win.

Everyone felt it was a big score when Edinburgh scored just before half-time. It gave Edinburgh momentum and pushed them further ahead, but they'll be disappointed with that second half.

  4. Zanon impresses for winning Benettonpublished at 21:36 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

    FT: Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

Player of the Match, Benetton centre, Marco Zanon tells Viaplay: "I'm so proud of the team. We put in a lot of hard work, although created fewer opportunities than last week - but we managed to score. I'm so happy.

"I said to myself, never give up. I told the guys the opportunity will come, and I took it.

"It's an incredible team. We put a lot of focus in physicality in discipline which was really important for us."

  5. Full-time - Edinburgh 22-24 Benettonpublished at 21:31 Greenwich Mean Time 24 November 2023

If you'd told me after 10 minutes that Edinburgh would lose that game, I wouldn't have believed you.

But Benetton turned up, and then some, in the second-half.

Just three points for the hosts in the second 40 minutes, whilst they gave their Italian opposition gift after gift.

Not to be for Blair Kinghorn on his final home game as an Edinburgh player and he, and his teammates, look utterly dejected.

Just a second URC loss of the season for Edinburgh, but they know it really should have been a win.

It's wide! The drop goal goes wide! Benetton win!

  7. Edinburgh penalty... what will they do?published at 81 mins

    Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

Edinburgh indicated they wanted to go for the corner, but then changed their mind and Ben Healy pointed to the sticks. It would have been a monster penalty from his own half... but he's not allowed!

Aimee Barrett-Thomas tells them they've already made up their mind. The kick gets them to the edge of the 22m.

    Drop goal coming!

Another Benetton penalty! Jamie Ritchie thought he was in a fair position but the referee calls no hands and Benetton will take the penalty.

They just tap and go with 30 seconds on the clock. Do they want the bonus point try?

It's a big mistake! Edinburgh penalty! Turnover! I can't believe this!

  9. Edinburgh butcher line-outpublished at 78 mins

    Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

Ben Healy kicks to the Benetton 22m... but there's an obstruction in the line-out! Tom Dodd and Jamie Ritchie both move in front of Grant Gilchrist.

Huge let-off, and possibly the ball game.

  10. Red card - Eli Snyman (Benetton)published at 77 mins

    Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

Well now. Duhan van der Merwe made a bit of a meal of a high tackle - but the replay shows he was entitled to!

Benetton second-row Eli Snyman has almost headbutted Van der Merwe in that tackle. They're busy establishing the level of danger - but it's either yellow or red and Benetton will finish with 14 men.

It's red! That'll gives Edinburgh hope.

Now, if I'm a script-writer, it's a Kinghorn hat-trick to win it with his final touch in an Edinburgh jersey at home.

But this isn't Hollywood, it's the Hive Stadium.

  12. Postpublished at 75 mins

Boan Venter turns over and Ben Healy clears... straight into the hands of Rhyno Smith.

He has all the time in the world to nail his drop goal, but it's an awful shank. Edinburgh get away with it.

They have five minutes to try and turn this scoreline around.

    Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

It's three or four minutes of phase after phase, box-kick after box-kick. Eventually, Blair Kinghorn has a wee break but Mirco Spagnolo makes amends for his early yellow card with a superb turnover.

The ball is back in Edinburgh territory - exactly where Benetton want to be.

    Edinburgh 22-24 Benetton

I can't quite believe what I've just seen. From Benetton's 5m line to Edinburgh's try-line in a matter of seconds.

  15. converted try

Converted try - Edinburgh 22-24 Benettonpublished at 68 mins

    Marco Zanon

Nope! Benetton steal the ball and the Hive falls silent.

The ball is shelled forward, but Boan Venter spills! It's kicked deep into Edinburgh's half and Blair Kinghorn tries to scoop it up. His pop pass is terrible! Marco Zanon gleefully snatches and scores!

That is a coach killer. Error after error, and now Benetton are ahead after the conversion.

  16. Postpublished at 66 mins

    Edinburgh 22-17 Benetton

But from the scrum, Edinburgh turn it over! It's WP Nel again, who has absolutely dominated at scrum time. You can never, ever write him off.

Ben Healy goes for the corner. Time for Edinburgh to kill this game off. Right?

  17. Postpublished at 64 mins

    Edinburgh 22-17 Benetton

Here come Edinburgh for the first time in this second half. They're up to the 22m.

But the hands are sloppy! Duhan van der Merwe's pass is weak and slow and behind Wes Goosen. The execution just hasn't been there on a few occasions for Edinburgh tonight.

Marshall Sykes is now on for Glen Young.

  18. Postpublished at 63 mins

    Edinburgh 22-17 Benetton

Oh there he is again! The centurion!

Just when Benetton were starting to build a head of steam, rumbling through the phases, starving Edinburgh of ball, Jamie Ritchie produces a massive turnover penalty.

A change at loosehead for the hosts. Boan Venter replaces Pierre Schoeman.

  19. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Edinburgh 22-17 Benetton

Jamie Ritchie steals the ball in the middle of the park and Glen Young pops up with the ball... and then tries to stab the ball through.

It skews out in an awkward fashion and the lock has a mischievous grin on his face. That wasn't pretty.

  20. Missed penaltypublished at 57 mins

    Edinburgh 22-17 Benetton

Ewan Ashman is pinged again as he fails to roll away quickly enough. That's the second time tonight.

Jacob Umaga clearly wants to go for the uprights... and he eventually persuades captain Michele Lamaro.

Oh! He's pulled it left. That could be very costly come the end of the night.
