For a ground with a capacity of 14,000, it's easy to see why the Rec is such a special ground.

The historic buildings in the background, the tightly packed stands and of course the atmosphere.

A treat for all rugby enthusiasts.

An Ulster mistake and a clinical bit of set-piece play from Bath. Tom Dunn is not going to get it any easier than that and it is a great start to the second half from Bath, just what Ulster did not want.

    Tom Dunn (46 mins)

It is now Bath's turn to be clinical.

A driving maul from a lineout brings Bath within two metres of the Ulster line. Dunn at the back, breaks clear and dives over for his third Champions Cup try.

    Spencer swings in the extras.

Ulster looking keen to get off to a better start in this period with some decent carries, but Miles Reid is in with a steal on the deck, good work from the flanker.

    Ian Humphreys
Former Ulster fly-half Ian Humphreys on BBC Radio Ulster

Ulster have tried to play which has been enjoyable, they have just been a little bit inaccurate with their kicks.

All in all a score line that Ulster will be delighted with, they have been clinical with their chances, although Bath might feel a little bit hard done by.

Some memorable Ulster tries have been scored here at The Rec through the years. Andrew Trimble in January 2010, Nevin Spence in December 2010 and John Cooney in 2019, all of which led to famous Ulster victories.

Nathan Doak has now entered the chat. A superb split-second move from Ulster with Stewart Moore, Rob Baloucoune and James Hume all at their brilliant best with Nathan Doak timing his run to perfection. The rest is history, what a try!

Well, we weren't expecting that 10 minutes ago.

After dominating the game early on, Bath led through Joe Cokanasiga.

But in the last six minutes of the opening period Billy Burns and Nathan Doak each scored to turn the game on its head.

What a second half we're in for.

Counter-attack at it's best. It is simple hands, they are queuing up when it comes back to Hume and it is Nathan Doak with the acceleration and he goes under the posts.

Where has that come from? Two moments of magic from Ulster in the last few minutes.

  11. try

Try Bath 8-14 Ulsterpublished at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2023

    Nathan Doak (38 mins)

My goodness, what a turnaround at the Rec!

From nowhere, Ulster are in front.

Stewart Moore with an excellent take from a high ball inside his own half before the ball is worked to Rob Baloucoune out wide right. The big winger finds James Hume inside with a fantastic offload and he, in turn, finds Nathan Doak on his shoulder to sprint home from 30 metres. Scintillating.

Doak gets up to add the extra two.

Billy Burns, he is the first to react, sees the space, steps on the gas and takes it under the whitewash. He buys Ulster a chance to get back in the game.

Something out of nothing for Ulster. I don't think you can underestimate what that will do for Ulster, Bath have been on top.

Ulster need to see this through to half-time, then it will be all to play for in the second half.

  13. try

Out of nowhere Ulster hit back!

some good rucks allow Nathan Doak to spread right from the base within the Bath 22.

Ollie Lawrence sticks out a foot to a bouncing ball but can only poke into the hands of the on-rushing Billy Burns who gladly scoops up and races under the posts, Doak with the extras.

    Bath nearly in again!

Ben Spencer chases his own kick through and only the pace of Rob Baloucoune rescues the situation by touching down in-goal.

The hosts turning the screw now.

    Bath 5-0 Ulster

    Tony McWhirter

That pass from Ben Spencer, my goodness, like a bullet through the air from 30-yards. Jacob Stockdale, he had no option, he had to try and step in to take the ball and Cokanasiga from that distance, no chance he was missing.

  17. try

Try - Bath 5-0 Ulsterpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2023

    Joe Cokanasiga (28 mins)

Bath destroy the Ulster scrum, before captain Ben Spencer throws a ridiculous 30-yard pass out right that eventually finds the big winger Cokanasiga who dives over in the corner beyond the grasp of Jacob Stockdale.

    The conversion is missed.

  18. Postpublished at 15:45 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2023

Now Beno Obano causing havoc in the loose. He and his Bath chums gaining serious momentum close to the Ulster line.

Ulster penalised for offside, no kick this time, a scrum is called in the centre of the pitch five metres out.

It's just as tight at the commentary position as it is on the pitch!

Twenty-five minutes played at The Rec and there's nothing between the two sides, which is remarkable given the intensity of the first quarter!

  20. Physio in disguise?published at 15:43 Greenwich Mean Time 9 December 2023

    Bath 0-0 Ulster

Winger Will Muir causing some havoc down the left wing for Bath.

He's wearing a fetching pair of leggings that makes him look a bit like a physio running around the pitch. Could this be the reason Ulster are missing him in the tackles?
