And we just almost had another try!

Nolann Le Garrec puts a dangerous kick through that bounces awkwardly for Cam Winnett.

The Wales full-back gathers at the second attempt but carried the ball over his own line and France have a scrum five metres out.

    Danger for Wales.

Former Wales fly-half on BBC Radio Wales

France look vulnerable when Wales go through the phases and again it's the inside defence.

Owen Watkin goes straight through after two missed tackles and Shaun Edwards will not be happy with this defence.

Tomos Williams try, Sam Costelow con

Wales hit straight back. Great break from Owen Watkin hands Williams a clear run.

But again - where was the French defence?

Thomas Ramos just flapped at Watkin who stepped off his left foot and then found open grass.

Superb combination of power and physicality but then the structure. Lovely hands out the back and then a classy finish by Gaël Fickou.

Sam Costelow will be disappointed with that missed tackle though.

  6. try

Converted try - Wales 10-13 Francepublished at 21 mins

    Gael Fickou

Sam Costelow didn't find touch with his kick and invited France to run it back.

The French move through the phases via their various pods and Fickou steps out of Costelow's tackle to score in the right corner.

    Wales 10-6 France

    Gareth Griffiths
BBC Sport Wales at Principality Stadium

Lock Adam Beard had just proved why he is in the Wales side with some excellent line-out defence that stopped a France driving maul.

It is an art that not many can master.

    Wales 10-6 France

Wales defend the lineout but all they gain is a scrum - not exactly good news.

This ball has to be in and out the back like a rat up a drainpipe.

    Wales 10-6 France

Oh the new boy has made a schoolboy error there.

Joe Roberts kicks the ball straight into touch but the ball had been passed back into the 22 and France have a lineout deep inside Welsh territory.

Well I think we're all agreed the scrum is in for one hell of a day, but the lineout has just given Wales some hope as Dafydd Jenkins pinches a French throw.

A telling first scrum, technique in the scrum will only go so far when you're pushing against such a big pack.

It's going to be a tough job for Gareth Thomas at loosehead today.

The French pack are pushing nearly a tonne in weight and the Welsh pack almost disintegrated there.

Well, if France know a way to get back into this game it's the scrum.

First set-piece and referee Luke Pearce blows straight away.

Has that set the tone for the day?

Wales have shown ambition in the opening exchanges but also patience.

I've no idea why there was no cover in behind from the fullback.

Clear break, good feet by Rio Dyer and it just opens up for him, he's have been really surprised no one was there.

That was really good from Wales, very patient. Initially they were getting knocked back and then a good decision by Sam Costelow to go to the air with the kick.

Wales regained the ball and that loose ball, a missed tackle from France and no one covering in behind for Rio Dyer.

Rio Dyer try, Sam Costelow con

Well there didn't appear to be anything on then but suddenly the French defence just parted and Dyer sped through for the first try.

Shaun Edwards will be furious at that.

It all began with a half break by Tomos Williams but where was the new French full-back?

Wales have got to keep France out of the red zone.

With the power they have they'll keep going and going forward and that's what they did there with the pressure eventually telling in three points.
