  2. HALF-TIME Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 21 January 2017

A frustrating 45 minutes for Mark Warburton and Rangers as they fail to breach a determined Motherwell rearguard. Referee Craig Thomson waved away appeals for a penalty following Hammell's challenge on O'Halloran.

For the visitors, it's been sporadic attacks and an apparent gameplan of containment. Here's hoping for a goal in the second half.

    Rangers 0-0 Motherwell

It must be the opening goal, no! The dancing feet of Barrie McKay bamboozle the back-tracking Motherwell defence as he drives a cross across goal but Kenny Miller fluffs his lines as his fresh-air swipe spurns a golden chance.

Stevie Hammell, who survived that penalty appeal, whips in a dangerous cross and forces Rangers to clear. Joe Chalmers then has the ball on the edge of the area but drags his effort wide of Wes Foderingham's goal.

  6. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 35 mins

Penalty for Rangers? Referee Craig Thomson, with a shake of the head, dismisses the hosts' appeal after Michael O'Halloran tumbles under the close attention of Stevie Hammell.

"Without doubt, Hammell catches his ankle. Should've been a clear penalty," says BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson.

  7. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 34 mins

Rangers are enjoying a lot of possession but BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson points out that poor crossing is proving expensive for the hosts. Kenny Miller has had a couple of half chances but nothing significant.

  8. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 30 mins

Kenny Miller fouled by Carl McHugh, 20 yards, out. Chance for Rangers... but Barrie McKay sends his effort straight into the Motherwell wall and the visitors survive.

  9. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 27 mins

Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday gets up and dusts himself down after being whacked by Motherwell's Louis Moult. The striker, hand up, apologises for his late challenge and is spared a booking.

  10. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 25 mins

Motherwell, awarded a free-kick on the halfway line, arrow a long ball into the box in Stephen McManus' direction, but Rangers clear their lines. Neither goalkeeper has had much to do and could probably read a chapter from a book behind their near post...

  11. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 22 mins

Rangers, who have looked sharper throughout the opening 20 minutes, play some neat passes deep inside Motherwell territory. Debutant Jon Toral has the chance to spear into the box but coughs up possession and the visitors clear the danger.

  12. CLOSE!published at 19 mins

    Rangers 0-0 Motherwell

The hosts come within a whisker of taking the lead as Andy Halliday whips in a free-kick and the rising Kenny Miller's looping header scrapes the top of the bar on the way over for a goal-kick.

Miller trots back upfield, shaking his head, plagued by thoughts of what if?

  13. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 14 mins

Barrie McKay takes the sting out of the prolonged Motherwell attack and the hosts can regroup, pause for breath and clear their lines. This Scottish Cup fourth-round tie is beginning to open up.

It looks a matter of when, not if, Rangers break the deadlock. Michael O'Halloran, linked with a move to today's opponents in the January transfer window, narrowly misses out on playing in Kenny Miller inside the box.

Barrie McKay then threatens the frazzled-looking Well rearguard. Worrying times for Mark McGhee's men.

More Rangers pressure as Lee Hodson's cross is blocked from wide on the right and Lee Wallace then sees his effort deflected for a corner. The hosts, however, fail to capitalise from the subsequent set-piece.

  20. Rangers 0-0 Motherwellpublished at 3 mins

Barrie McKay nutmegs defender Richard Tait and looks to bear down on goal but Motherwell recover to repel the danger. Mark Warburton's side are enjoying the lionshare of possession and have been patient in their build-up.
