The tournament looked to be heading for a damp squib at the last 16, by which stage world number one Mark Selby, China's number one Ding Junhui and former champion Judd Trump all went out.

But the two remaining seeds have made it through to the showpiece in York and there is history.

Shaun Murphy has looked to bury the hatchet with opponent Ronnie O'Sullivan after labelling The Rocket "pathetic, offensive and unprofessional."

O'Sullivan responded yesterday by saying: "I don't care what anyone thinks about me on the tour. There are some nice guys who are cool but for the majority, I don't care what they think.

"I am here to do a job, here to play, I know I am a nice guy, there are no issues."

  3. 'This is the acid test for O'Sullivan'published at 13:14 Greenwich Mean Time 10 December 2017

    Ronnie O'Sullivan 0-0 Shaun Murphy

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion at The Barbican

Ronnie has just done enough in this tournament. He had a scare against Sunny Akani, but was able to up the pace. He hasn't played any top-eight ranked players, but now he's playing Shaun Murphy, so this is the acid test.

This match will be a bit of a slug-fest, with big breaks everywhere.

Is Ronnie going to play a bit more tactically to suck Murphy into going for long pots?
