Frame 23: John Higgins 9-14 Mark Williams (first to 18)

Thomas Frost: What a clearance from John! One of the finest the Crucible has ever seen. He’s got bottle this lad.

Hello: Williams loses his rag and Higgins steals it. What a clearance. Only O'Sullivan and Selby could hold their nerve and do that.

Frame 23: John Higgins 9-14 Mark Williams (76-65, Higgins 72)

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. The frame looked finished, Williams, 65 ahead, lost position and gave the table a whack with his hand. There was so much for Higgins to do, and he takes it with a clearance of 72 to win another one.

Will that frame prove to be a turning point? Higgins still five behind, but another small step forward for him.

And we are back. An early chance for John Higgins. He needs almost-flawless snooker from now.

Hope for Higgins? In the legendary final of 1985, Dennis Taylor was 8-0 down and beat Steve Davis 18-17 on the final black.

  18. 'Devastating snooker from Williams'published at 15:33 British Summer Time 7 May 2018

Frame 21: John Higgins 7-14 Mark Williams (first to 18)

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Hopefully the interval will help John regroup but it has been devastating snooker from Williams. He has made so many difficult shots look easy. He deserves his lead and must be feeling so confident to be risking so much with the cue ball.

Williams is a brilliant bully around the table and doesn't look like he's faltering. There comes a time when you think 'I'm on the brink of winning' but he's not the type of player to feel the pressure.

Can John somehow drag himself off the floor? It's debatable the way Mark is playing.
