  1. Selby levels at mid-session intervalpublished at 20:36 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Frame 12: Selby 5-6 Murphy

He needed a couple of bite at the cherry in the final frame before the interval but Mark Selby draws level for the first time since 3-3.

A couple of clever safety shots put Murphy in trouble and Selby clears with 86 to leave this final perfectly poised.

We always say, with these long matches, you try to break it down into the mini-sessions.

If Mark Selby wins this frame, he wins the mini-session 3-1 and draws level.

He's slowly building an advantage after some cracking shots in this frame.

    Frame 12: Selby 5-6 Murphy

Mark Selby, meanwhile, crunches in a long red but misses the next one, only to get away with it.

It's been that sort of match - far from flawless with a fair few misses thrown in but then all of a sudden one of the pair produces a quality frame-winning break.

We were in here 20-25 minutes before the first shot tonight, you could feel it then and you can feel it now, the atmosphere is fantastic.

I had a wander down from the hotel and got to experience the fans walking in from Tudor Square, it was fabulous.

    Frame 12: Selby 5-6 Murphy

A re-rack early in the 12th frame with the cue ball close to the cluster of reds and both players just nudging short safeties.

It's failed to dampen the ardour of the Crucible crowd though - they are well into this.

I don't know whether Shaun miscounted and then had to follow through with chasing them but it is the wrong strategy for him.

That was a waste of time from Shaun. He is just better getting on with it. Nobody is getting three snookers from Mark Selby.

He is in a good groove and he is probably doing more harm to himself by playing on there.

  8. Selby cuts deficit againpublished at 20:09 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Frame 11: Selby 5-6 Murphy

The inevitable eventually happens as Shaun Murphy misses the brown completely and concedes.

That was the longest frame of the match at just over 25 minutes.

    Frame 11: Selby 5-6 Murphy

A wonderful 67 break from Mark Selby and he's back within one frame.

    Well, barring snookers.

Shaun Murphy is taking a leaf out of his opponent's book and playing on with four snookers needed.

    Snooker bants.

Murphy escapes the snooker but leaves Mark Selby an easy red.

Mark Selby is feeling the heat too.

A missed long red puts Murphy - who broke down on that earlier break - back in but he can't get on a colour and it's another safety.

Selby knocks the next long one in but also runs out of position and lays a snooker behind the yellow.

    Frame 11: Selby 4-6 Murphy

A nice round of applause for a member of the audience who was perhaps feeling a bit unwell so they have headed out for some fresh air.

Got to be honest, the Crucible can be a cauldron in almost a literal sense as well as metaphorical - it's so warm in there on hot days.

And that's before you consider everyone has to wear facemasks now.

    Frame 11: Selby 4-6 Murphy

Shaun Murphy drills in a superb long red.

Judging by what I've seen throughout today, I think I might as well just copy that sentence for pasting when needed.

He plays perhaps an even better shot soon after to nudge the black into a pottable position.

Shaun knows he won't be gifted anything by Mark Selby but he actually was there and he took full advantage.

It's a collector's item an unforced error from Selby.

At this level you have to punish every little mistake.

  15. No ton - but Murphy reopens two-frame gappublished at 19:41 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Frame 10: Selby 4-6 Murphy

Shaun Murphy raises his eyes to the heavens after he fails to nudge out the penultimate red from a pink.

    The crowd titters in response.

And he fails narrowly to cut the difficult red in despite the spectators almost blowing it in. The break ends on 98.

Nice moment but still no ton!

Shaun Murphy couldn't ask for a much better chance to add to that century tally.

The reds are nicely positioned in the middle of the table, apart from one in the baulk area.

He's past the half-century mark already.

  17. 'Centuries on the cards?'published at 19:33 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Selby 3-5 Murphy

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport reporter at the Crucible Theatre

There's a guessing game going on in the press room tonight over the total number of points that will scored over the next nine frames.

Obviously that's all a bit of trivial fun but will a few centuries be on the cards over the course of the evening? We're yet to have one in the match.

That is a huge surprise given the record for most tournament tons, previously 100, has already been broken this year - 103 and counting.

    Frame 10: Selby 4-5 Murphy

Referee Paul Collier has to issue ANOTHER warning to the audience about mobile phones.

But that's no excuse for a poor safety shot played with the rest by Mark Selby as he cannons into a red into the middle of the table and leaves it on a plate for Shaun Murphy.

Can the Magician conjure up that sort of frame-winning break Alan McManus says is so important?

  19. '50 or 60 isn't enough'published at 19:29 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Frame 9: Selby 4-5 Murphy

    Alan McManus
Former Masters champion on BBC Two

That clearance is a perfect example of why, in the modern game, a 50 or 60 break just isn’t enough against these players, even with reds on the cushions.

  20. Selby clears to pull within onepublished at 19:28 British Summer Time 2 May 2021

    Frame 9: Selby 4-5 Murphy

Selby pots the red right into the heart of the pocket and completes a fantastic clearance of 85.

    Gauntlet thrown down. Warning issued.
