    Frame 26: Selby 14-11 Murphy

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

Mark Selby will be feeling quietly confident coming into this final session.

He’s got Shaun Murphy at arms’ length and he will be further buoyed by the fact that he has thwarted every Murphy attempt to get back on level terms.

What he’s got to do tonight – just remain focused and calm and maybe then he can win pretty comfortably.

But they have played many, many more times than that, having grown up on the junior circuit together.

Anticipation is slowly building at the Crucible.

Fans started filtering in to the arena around 18:00, while outgoing World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn and the presentation party from sponsors Betfred have also been milling around behind the scenes.

But just how quickly we find a winner is anyone's guess. Will Shaun Murphy's fighting skills come to the fore or will Mark Selby's granite all-round game see him over the line?

    We shall soon find out.

There was, of course, one cliffhanger on BBC TV last night and we have another one for you this Monday evening.

At some point tonight, we'll find out the identity of... the 2021 World Snooker champion.

All of the clues point to Mark Selby lifting a fourth Crucible crown as he leads 14-11 going into the fourth and final session.

But could there be a shock twist whereby Shaun Murphy steps out of the shadows and repeats his 2005 triumph?

Three sessions down, one to go. Mark Selby will be hoping that equates to titles as well, as he seeks his fourth Crucible crown.

The Jester has given himself the platform to achieve that feat by maintaining his four-frame lead over Shaun Murphy heading into tonight's final session.

But the Magician has launched comebacks from far worse positions than this in the past.

Join us to see how it all pans out - we'll be back with live text coverage from 18:55 BST.

  11. 'The match is not over'published at 16:32 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Selby 14-11 Murphy

    Judd Trump
World number one on BBC Two

The match is not over, Shaun still has a great chance. There are only three frames in it.

He will take some comfort knowing he's come from behind in this tournament before and got back into games but Mark Selby has just been so solid so far in this final.

  12. 'Every credit to Murphy'published at 16:31 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Selby 14-11 Murphy

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

He is still in the match, Shaun Murphy.

He could have lost the final today in that session - there were times I thought it was almost running away from him but he's done well, every credit.

  13. 'Selby has an answer for everything'published at 16:29 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Selby 14-11 Murphy

    Judd Trump
World number one on BBC Two

Shaun Murphy seems to have thrown everything at Mark - and he just has an answer for everything.

Shaun's scoring just wasn't quite good enough and that's what we've seen over the past 10-15 frames.

He hasn't been able to score and get in with one visit and Mark Selby is just too good at clearing up.

  14. Selby leads 14-11 - four frames from titlepublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 3 May 2021
    Breaking

    Frame 25: Selby 14-11 Murphy

Mark Selby cleans up a long red left by Shaun Murphy to clinch a very important final frame of the afternoon.

The party tricks come out as he develops the last red and plays the final few balls with his extension on the cue, having left it on from a previous shot.

So, it's as we were. Mark Selby began this session leading by three frames - and that's how he ends it.

  15. Postpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Frame 25: Selby 13-11 Murphy (62-0)

Not for the first time, Mark Selby can't quite finish the job here.

His break ends on 62 but with six reds remaining there are still 75 points available.

Shaun Murphy misses a long red that might have got him back in it.

  16. Postpublished at 16:13 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Frame 25: Selby 13-11 Murphy

Mark Selby, however, wants to stamp out any hopes of a comeback.

He shows evidence of the quality of his own long game by floating in a lovely red and the balls are at his mercy a few shots later.

  17. 'Huge frame in context of match'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Frame 25: Selby 13-11 Murphy

    Judd Trump
World number one on BBC Two

Murphy just seemed to have the confidence back in that frame. He got on with the frame and just looked like he was stomping around the table and just intimidating Mark Selby – and that’s what he’s got to do.

He’s giving it his absolute all and even though he’s not scoring, he’s just managed to stick in there.

And I do expect him at some point to just click into gear and rattle off two, three, four frames in a row. Obviously it can’t be now but this frame coming up is absolutely huge in the context of the match.

  18. Murphy back within twopublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Frame 24: Selby 13-11 Murphy

The Magician couldn't quite complete the job in one fell swoop but he produced a simply sensational long red with the cue ball tucked tightly against the cushion to get back in.

    A 56 break and a fist pump.

He looked in all sorts of trouble at 13-9 down but Shaun Murphy has reduced his deficit to two.

A huge final frame of the session remains - will Mark Selby's lead be 14-11 or 13-12 heading into tonight's finale?

    Frame 24: Selby 13-10 Murphy

Back in the present day and some solid Shaun Murphy safety has forced an error from Mark Selby and the Magician could cut his deficit even further.

He's 45 points ahead and at the table.

  20. 'Snookering you, snookering you tonight'published at 15:58 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

    Frame 24: Selby 13-10 Murphy

That last frame Shaun Murphy was striding around the table like he was playing Big Break - potting as many balls as he could in as quick a time as possible.

Remember Big Break? What a show. Staple of my Saturday nights growing up. Kids, look it up.

They should bring that back, even if just for a one-off. Would be great to see the modern players on it.

Let's see if John Virgo's up for it. I'll dig out some emails and phone numbers for the programme-making and scheduling execs.
