Zhao Xintong wastes no time in dispatching a couple of balls.

Run of the balls. Zhao Xintong smashes at a long red but gets very lucky to leave the white up against the brown.

Luca Brecel cracks a little smile. He won't be happy about that really mind. This is awks with a cap A.

And even less now, after leaving his opponent in.

Zhao Xintong had a fantastic chance to open up a three-frame lead and go 5-2 up. Did he see the winning line a bit early and was he thinking too far ahead?

He had to do that there. Luca Brecel was given a lifeline.

That was a frame he should not have ever been anywhere near.

  6. Brecel bounces backpublished at 15:56 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Frame seven: Brecel 3-4 Zhao

That really is superb from Luca Brecel. He rolls a tough red along the bottom cushion in and then tidies up the colours.

Probably one of this best breaks of 33 ever. Certainly very timely.

    Frame seven: Brecel 2-4 Zhao

Zhao Xintong looks to have the cue ball on a string as he reaches 46 but then misses the black off its spot.

A huge gasp goes up inside the York Barbican, I don't think anyone was expecting that.

The kind of shot Zhao knocked in to get started is the kind of shot that is so much easier when you are two frames ahead.

Now it is all about how much of a lead he can achieve. The secret of these two-session matches is not relaxing.

  13. Zhao extends his leadpublished at 15:40 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Frame six: Brecel 2-4 Zhao

Zhao Xintong back at the table trying to play safe knocks in another ridiculous fluke.

He then snookers Luca Brecel behind the black, who escapes but leaves the final red over the right middle. Frame over.

    Terrible luck for the Belgian.

    Frame six: Brecel 2-3 Zhao

Zhao Xintong is ticking the scoreboard along. He's up to 42, now 49 but has two tricky reds to negotiate.

He misses, leaves both in the open but neither are in potting positions. Talk about a run of the balls.

    Frame six: Brecel 2-3 Zhao

Luca Brecel gets to 40 but doesn't really commit to a cannon into the remaining reds.

He leaves himself a testing one to the top bin, which he misses. The Belgian is looking extremely frustrated.

If Zhao Xintong pinches this frame it would be a major blow.

    Frame six: Brecel 2-3 Zhao

A loose shot from Zhao Xintong allows Luca Brecel to get his hand and the rest on the table to knock a red into the bottom right bag.

Good chance to get his cueing arm going again here.

Knee on the table + awkward bridging = Zhao Xintong missed red.

He's left Luca Brecel with a horrible start, which the Belgian wisely refuses despite not potting anything for around half an hour.

    Frame six: Brecel 2-3 Zhao

Zhao Xintong will be very happy with the way things are panning out at present.

In goes a straight red at the start of the sixth frame. Is he on the black? That looks tight, maybe not. A tough pink it is...which flashes into the right middle.

There's no space for it to fit back on its spot but Zhoa is in prime position.

There were a lot of mistakes in that frame and nobody is really taking the match by the scruff of the neck at the moment.
