John: Well done Neil Robertson. I always like rooting for the underdog in these finals if my favourite players aren't involved, but nevertheless, Robertson is a fantastic player. Well deserved.

Abby: Well played Neil after an amazing week of snooker in the Masters.

  6. Robertson 'heaps pressure on his opponents'published at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

When Neil starts stomping around the table and the cue ball is absolutely perfect positionally and he is knocking the balls into the back of the pockets, that heaps a lot of pressure on opponents and they struggle to cope with it. He is dominant not only in table time but in attitude.

Maybe he has underachieved but it shows how many great players there are in the game.

  7. 'Robertson is as good as anyone'published at 21:34 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2022

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

It sounds churlish to say Neil Robertson has only won one World Championship. He will want to put that right because he's one of the greats anyway.

His standard at his best, he is as good as anyone with a cue in his hand. He struts like a peacock around the table, his shot time comes down and some of the pots are ridiculous. The pockets look like a pool table [pockets].

Neil deserved it on the standard he has played this week. Even though he hasn't got the CV of the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, Mark Williams and John Higgins for the Triple Crown events, his standard is right up there. He is such a strong competitor and another player in the frame for the World Championship later this year.

Two-time Masters champion Neil Robertson speaking on BBC Two: "With the players I have had to beat it has to be right up there. Every match has thrown up a lot of challenges. Coming here, when it was announced we were having the crowds back I was so excited. It was fantastic to hear the crowds cheer again.

"I got about 300 text messages tell me I have never seen anything like it [the semi-final] and coming in everyone was saying 'what about yesterday'?.

"I think Barry was a little bit unlucky being in the second semi-final where he wins 6-5, roles reversed he could have won today.

"It is about balancing it [my family life] and doing what works for you. If missing the odd event gets me to a few more of Alexander's football matches or letting Mille sleep in and getting up with Penelope, my snooker is getting the most benefit. I have struck the perfect balance."

    Frame 14: Robertson 9-4 Hawkins

Neil Robertson is miles off with a chance to knock a long red into the bottom right.

It matters not. Barry Hawkins sees a red to the left corner miss and come all the way up the table to land right over the top right corner. How's your luck?

Neil Robertson is a better player than Barry, that's the first thing to say. There's not much in it but going on records he is. And he has that experience of being a major winner in his locker.

It's tough for Barry and he'll be disappointed with today's performance but he shouldn't be disappointed with his tournament.

Robertson is great frontrunner, he's as smooth and powerful a potter as there is on the tour. I don't think anyone in the room can see a way back for Barry.
