Off the pitch things have been difficult this year for Beth Mead, who thanked her family in her speech.
Her mum, who Mead credits for her success, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last year and the family found out this year that it was incurable. Mead's dad said that devastating news kick-started his daughter into action and she went on to "show the world what she can do".

Christopher: MEADO!!! The Lionesses make it a clean sweep and this is hugely deserved - incredible performances in the Euros, and to go out there and do that when she was clearly having such a challenging year at home, phenomenal. Congrats Beth Mead.
Laura: Beth, Sarina and the Lionesses taking #BBCSPOTY award, team of the year and coach of the year. Women’s football has well and truly said we’re here to stay.
