Tomas Berdych gives a toothy grin and double fist pump towards his friends and coaches in the players' box. The gents in his entourage are all wearing similar floral pattern shirts - sharing the contractually-obligated fashion burden.

Andy Murray and Philipp Kohlschreiber were not the only ones called in for their tea with their match still in the balance last night.

Richard Gasquet had a mountain to climb on Court Philippe Chatrier, and it looks like he has left his crampons at home.

One match is already done and dusted for the day courtesy of a mighty-impressive performance from Eugenie Bouchard. The Canadian 18th seed, who won her first tour title last week in Nuremburg last week, chalked up her ninth successive win, eliminating eighth seed Angelique Kerber 6-1 6-2 tout suite.

She will fancy her chances in the quarter-finals as well. She will face either Carla Suarez Navarro or Ajla Tomljanovic in the last eight.

Just four of the top ten women's seed remain in the draw.

Play resumes on Suzanne Lenglen once John Inser and Tomas Berdych have vacated the surface.

It could have been a long wait, watching two monster serves grappling like Godzilla and King Kong.

But sixth seed Berdych is 6-4 6-4 3-2 to the good, with a break in the third, after just an hour and half of play.

Murray time could be just 20 minutes or so away.

Three hours 27 minutes, 117 winners, 110 errors and still there was nothing to choose between them.

Seemingly before every match he plays, Andy Murray describes his opponent as "tough".

Philipp Kohlschreiber lived up the billing, taking him to 7-7 in a fifth set before fading light brought them off court at 21:40 local time.

We are left with a shoot-out. No margin for error, any break of serve is likely to be the knockout blow.
