  1. Murray v Andersonpublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"I think this another case where a guy walks out on this great court, and it is hard to think clearly. Next thing you are two, three games down, playing a great champion, wanting to get your confidence by playing safe until you get your game going. Anderson has done that, but Murray has answered him."

  2. Murray v Andersonpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

Sebastian Jenkins:, external Watching Murray play on grass is like watching Messi play football, mesmerising

Simon Turner:, external Think Murray should win, but a big serving South African took out the defending champion in 1983. Murray v strong returner of serve.

Iain Smith:, external Been saving my 2000th tweet all day for this. Cmon/vamos/allez Andy. Return well and it should be another straight sets

There it is - 42 minutes in, and Murray has the first set. Anderson has threatened on some points - his flat backhand is a weapon, but he doesn't have anywhere near the range of his storied opponent. In the Royal Box, Sir Cliff watches on emotionless. In the zone.

Fourth seed and 2012 runner-up Agnieszka Radwanska is out and about on court three. Ekaterina Makarova, the Russian 22nd seed, is up the other end. Even stevens, or should that be stephens?, so far.

A meeting with Czech Lucie Safarova, who beat fellow Czech Tereza Smitkova in 48 minutes earlier today, awaits the winner.

  5. Murray v Andersonpublished at 16:37 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Anderson is clearly playing better than he did in his first 20 minutes, he has settled in and it's nice to see him playing up to his ability."

Ah, well played sir - nicely disguised forehand sliced drop-shot from Anderson, and he lives into the 10th game, although the shot du jour comes from Murray when he rocks the retro look with a scooping forehand devoid of pace and spin, straight from the Fred Perry songbook. That rain we feared? On hold.

  7. Latest scorepublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    Sam Sheringham
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Delicious from Dimitrov! The Court One crowd are in raptures and the Bulgarian hooks a half-volleyed winner from between his legs to lead 2-1 on serve in the second set. Leonardo Mayer is 27 but has never got this far in a Grand Slam before. With Dimitrov playing this well, his chances of further progress look slim to even slimmer."

  8. Murray v Andersonpublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    Richard Krajicek
1996 Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 live

"I am scratching my head for Anderson. His play looks nice but he loses all of the points. He would be better playing shorter points, which would be better for his knee and would upset Murray's rhythm. He has to go for it."

Anderson to the net, but this time off a pleasing deep approach, and he's on the spot to clunk away the volleyed winner. 15-30, ace, Anderson clinging on for a deuce as Murray slices a rushed backhand into the net. Anderson now just wide with his favourite flat forehand, and he now must hold serve to stay in the set.

    Sam Sheringham
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"One of the most striking aspects of Dimitrov's play is his movement. He famously did the splits to fashion a winner against Stan Wawrinka on his way to the title at Queen's and he's showing similar athleticism to eat up every blade of grass on Court One in the early stages of his last-16 clash with Argentina's Leonardo Mayer.

"Even when he's waiting to receive a serve, he darts from side to side and vigorously spins his racquet in his hands. "

  11. Get involvedpublished at 16:27 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

Today, we're asking which men's player has the best serve, both past and present.

Dave, Exeter, via text: "Why isn't Roscoe Tanner on your list of top servers? Surely one of the greats."

Happy to oblige, Dave, here's the big-serving American in his 1976 pomp:

    Roscoe Tanner
  12. Postpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

Purrs of delight from the primed Centre Court crowd as Murray blocks a forehand back from way out wide, and it's past Anderson before he's tugged his racquet out of its follow-through. Break point for 5-2, but with Anderson floored after scrambling for a lob, Murray can't conjure his reply to the fierce overhead back over the net.

  13. GAME, SET AND MATCHpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

Cilic! Bang! Job done by Marin and it was open-and-shut case for the Croat, dispatching Jeremy Chardy in straight sets and a shade over two hours.

Novak Djokovic or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is up next for the 26th seed.

"The Hill is almost like a civilised music festival. Thousands on the grass, all staring in the same direction, waiting to be entertained. The difference is the picnic blankets, the popping of corks, the 'can you sit down please?'. We may, however, get mud. Spots of rain are in the air."

  15. Murray v Andersonpublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

"It is important that Murray does not get into the habit of just blocking the ball back when returning serve, if he is too passive Anderson is capable of doing some damage from the baseline."

Anderson sometimes a little ungainly, as you'd expect from a man of his dimensions, and Murray will exploit that when he comes to the net - dipping forehand cross-court, dropping and skidding away. Anderson may as well have been trying to hit a pea with a wet piece of spaghetti.

  17. GAME AND FIRST SETpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    Sam Sheringham
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

"Grigor Dimitrov exudes purpose and positive intent as a clean forehand top-spin winner helps earn him the break, and the first set."

  18. Murray v Andersonpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 30 June 2014

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

"Five or 10 minutes of this and the court will get very slippery. They've got the weather radars in the referee's office, they will have had a good look at it so finger's crossed."

Good attention to detail on these placards - are those the correct Scrabble scores on the bottom? Also coordination - no-one wants to see a sign exhorting Nady to victory. Chance for a second break, but as raindrops fill the air, the long-limbed Anderson hangs on.
