I wonder if we could tape a Kyrgios service game and simply repeat it every time he's handed the balls? There's usually an ace or two, there's usually the sight of Rafael Nadal lunging this way and that in a desperate attempt to get the ball on his racquet. Kyrgios throwing the ball into the air, hammering it down, hold to love. Your turn, Rafa.

  2. Nadal v Kyrgiospublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"Kyrgios has played three long matches, he's not used to that and when you play Nadal that first hour and 25 feels like double that."

Nadal is beginning to hold with more ease now, pulling the hulking Kyrgios this way and that. In the end, Nadal has the simple task of sprinting to the net and dinking the ball into open court to ask Kyrgios to serve to stay in the second set.

Tim Stubbs:, external Watch out for Wawrinka. A real danger man to any one left this year at SW19. Annoyed with the schedule & taking it out on opponents.

The man to my right says that it is near-impossible to serve aces for two hours, but if Nick Kyrgios does, then we have another almighty Rafael Nadal-shaped upset on our hands. Another Australia hold, Nadal once again asked questions as the sun hides behind the clouds.

Matthew Vernon:, external Re: Carol in London. Kyrgios doesn't need to keep it up over 5 sets on this form, he just needs to do it for 3...

Lucy Goudswaard:, external Nick Kyrgios is gonna be world number 1 one day.

Nadal, the fidget, bounces the ball for what seems like an eternity, paying no attention to the fact that 15,000 or so people are enjoying a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Kyrgios, on the other hand, is entirely aware of where he is, having a little fun at 40-0 down. Nadal deep, Kygios dangling the racquet between his legs...contact...netchord...an in! Open-armed celebration, Centre adoring the new-born star. It's ultimately part of a simple Nadal hold and could raise the ire of the world number one.

Jimmy Connors and John McEnroe were reminiscing on BBC TV just before Nadal v Kyrgios about their meeting in the 1977 semi-final, and here's a shot of them just after Connors completed his victory to make his third Wimbledon singles final in four years.

To illustrate the dominance of the Kyrgios serve, the Aussie had won all 24 points when his first serve landed prior to this game. He has to endure a second deuce here, but Nadal eventually goes long on the backhand to give it up. How can he take anything when Kyrgios has the balls?

Now then, finally some pressure on the Kyrgios serve, with some deftness from Nadal providing the Aussie with peril that even a hot dog can not resist. His response is to do what he does best - hit the ball hard - with a ripping cross-court backhand evading the Nadal lunge and sending Kyrgios into a skipping celebration. Nadal, looking distinctly miffed, punishes Kyrgios with a tour of the dirt to take us to deuce.

BBC Sport's Phil Shepka at Wimbledon: British number six Gabriella Taylor became the second home-grown talent through to the second round of the girls' singles after beating Katherine Sebov of Canada 7-5 6-1.

The 16-year-old from Bournemouth trains in Spain and made it through to the third round of the women's qualifying event before entering the juniors.

She made light work of Sebov under the beating sun on court 19 and joins British number one Katie Boulter in the second round.

  12. Nadal v Kyrgiospublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

"This is a fantastic occasion, the best court in the world and the adrenalin will be flowing for the teenager but can he keep it up? You sense that Nadal is getting closer."

Kyrgios isn't just about providing better service than a Michelin-star restaurant, his backhand isn't bad either. Rafa back to 30-15, then an absolute monster of a forehand return from Kyrgios levels it up. My word, someone should have a word with RSPCTB (they prevent cruelty to tennis balls) if he continues to hit it that hard. Nadal, like a heavyweight hit with a huge roundhouse, shakes off the cobwebs to take the game, but it's Kyrgios who is the one-man highlight reel.

Carol in London, via text: "Nervous for Rafa! Really want to see a Nadal-Federer semi. Surely big serving Aussie can't keep this up over 5 sets?"

  15. Postpublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Now, then Kyrgios serve under pressure for the first time at 15-30, but the scream from the Aussie Leviathan tells us another boomer has got him out of trouble. Two more have the game wrapped up in the blink of an eye, with polite applause from a sun-kissed Centre congratulating the youngster.

While this is currently a problem rather than a crisis, Nadal's white headband might become a little sweatier if Kyrgios produces many more of these knifed returns down the line. However, in case you didn't know, Rafa knows a thing or two about finding the line himself. Swoop across court, full swing of the arm, arcing forehand winner, complete with cry of "Come On!".

  17. Earlier start on Wednesdaypublished at 17:10 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Here's a little bit of news from the organisers...

"Please be advised that the Centre Court and No.1 Court will start play at noon on Wednesday, 2 July."

So polite. The order of play will come later... and news of when Andy Murray will take on Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the semi-finals.

Kyrgios reminds me of a cricket bowling machine. Point it in the right direction, crank the pace up, then watch anyone in the way run for cover. Just as in the first set, Nadal is stretching, straining to return, without joy. He's at the Royal Box End, and would maybe have a better hope of getting the ball back if he was about 20 yards back. I think that would put him somewhere in the locker rooms.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC Two

"Kyrgios' first set performance was absolutely incredible, 13 aces, and he did not lose a point on first serve."

Like the Incredible Hulk, you won't like Rafael Nadal when he's angry. Kyrgios can barely put strings to ball in a Nadal hold to love. Speaking of the Hulk, have you ever taken a close look at Rafael Nada's left arm? It's miles bigger than his right.
