Before we leave you here's a quick reminder of today's headlines from SW19:

World number one Rafael Nadal is out, beaten in four sets by 19-year-old Nick Kyrgios. The Australian played the mach of his young life on Centre Court and hit one of the most extraordainary shots I've ever seen.

Maria Sharapova's dreams of repeating her 2004 triumph ten years on are over. She lost in three tumultuous sets to Angelique Kerber.

Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka both won to set up an all-Swiss quarter-final, while Czech duo Petra Kvitova and Lucie Safarova will meet in the women's semis.

Petra Kvitova tells BBC Sport of the unusual place she practiced with her coach when recently affected by injury:

"It's true, I was injured, so I could not play on a normal court so we played just volleys in the back garden - it was fun!"

  4. Postpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Wow. Have we just seen the Wimbledon champion in waiting? There is no doubt Petra Kvitova will take some beating in that form. After a long day in the saddle, Billie Jean King finally rises from her seat and heads towards the exit. It's been quite a day.

Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

"Next up is Lucy Safarova, her Fed Cup team mate, they have won it two of the last three years but by far this is her finest win of the year. It's only her third semi-final of 2014, but she has really come into form. She dictated from the first set, and raised her game in the second set just in time."

End game. Like all great champs, Kvitova seizes her moment and quickly forces three match points. She only needs one. A blistering return down the line wins her the match and sets up a semi-final meeting with her fellow Czech Lucie Safarova.

Kvitova has gone into overdrive now, bending her knees and putting everything into every swing of her racquet. At 40-0 she sends down her fourth ace to take the lead in the set.

  8. Kvitova breakspublished at 20:48 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

From 30-30, Strycova clouts one long and is rightly furious with herself. Some booming ground strokes from Kvitova clinch the break at the first attempt. That's four consecutive breaks of serve at the back end of this second set.

Holy moly, after all that hard work, Kvitova is facing three break points. One saved, the next surrendered and Strycova is one service hold away from forcing a decider.

  10. Kvitova breakspublished at 20:41 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Can Strycova consolidate the break? The early signs aren't good as Kvitova unleashes two brilliant forehand passes, much to the approval of Billie Jean King who has been in the Royal Box all day. Strycova seems committed to chipping and charging but it's not been a very successful tactic, and she's beaten again as Kvitova passes for a break back point. A ferocious rally ensues but Strycova saves it when Kvitova nets. Deuces galore in the longest game of the match. And Kvitova' 19th winner - a towering forehand - seals the break and leaves her opponent on her knees.

  11. Strycova breakspublished at 20:30 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Suddenly Strycova seems to be hitting the ball a bit harder and Kvitova is rattled. Three break points and Strycova takes the first with a backhand volley at full stretch. Game on.

  12. Kyrgios news conferencepublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Australian wildcard Nick Kyrgios after beating Rafael Nadal: "I had nothing to lose out there playing against a player such as Rafael Nadal and had a sense of it not being the end of the world getting broken or even losing. Having that pillow to fall on played a big part.

"I will always have an aggressive game, play free, back myself under pressure and that will give me the best chance to win matches."

  13. Postpublished at 20:28 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Let's not write Strycova off just yet. A service hold to love shows she's hanging in there and she screams in approval of her own efforts.

With the game in the balance at 30-30, Kvitova steps forward and drives a forehand winner. Strycova's forehand drifts long and Kvitova punches the air. With the draw opening up, this really could be her year.

  15. Kyrgios news conferencepublished at 20:24 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Nick Kyrgios on his win over Rafael Nadal: "I'm just a normal kid. I play a lot of X-Box. I never thought I'd get to this stage at Wimbledon so early. I am sure a lot of you have 19-year-old kids and I am exactly the same as them. I want to be number one in the world and play Davis Cup. It's all happened so quickly. I am trying to work out where to go from here."

Strycova holds serve with ease to restore parity. One or two signs that she is settling into the match - but is it too late?

  18. Kyrgios news conferencepublished at 20:17 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Nick Kyrgios on his win over Rafael Nadal: "My serve was something that got me over the line. It helped me put pressure on his serve.

"It hasn't sunk it yet. I was overwhelmed with every emotion. I turned to my box to share the moment with them.

"Milos Raonic has probably got the best serve in the world, so I have to do everything to be ready for that."

Kvitova's huge serve is booming down from her 6 ft height and Strycova has no response. Strycova can't control her response to a booming forehand and another game slips by.

  20. Postpublished at 20:14 British Summer Time 1 July 2014

Kvitova really is in red hot form here as she passes her compatriot again to go 0-30 ahead. Good serving from Strycs to level up at 30-30 and then hold her nerve to get on the board in the crucial second set.
