  1. Post update

Ok folks. That's it from us. Novak Djokovic moves a step closer to a hat-trick of titles at the O2 in one of the most flawless displays of tennis I've ever seen.

Join us tomorrow for Nishikori against Raonic at 14:00 GMT and the battle royale that Murray against Federer promises to be at 20:00 GMT. Goodnight.

  2. Post update

The stats don't make pretty reading for the Stanimal. He only won 16 out of 45 points on his own serve! Speaking on TV, Djokovic rates his two performances in the tournament so far as 10 out of 10. Hard to disagree.

  3. Get involved

Tim Purcell: Is Djoko the Serbian word for relentless? Or awesome? Or phenomenal? Stan's been Djoko'd.

Michael Griffiths: Two of the best players in the world can#'t muster up enough games between them to even force a tie breaker against Novak.

  4. Post update

Jeremy and the 5 live Sports Extra team are going off air but you can switch over to 5 live right now for a special tennis programme featuring interviews with Djokovic and LTA director of development Bob Brett on the search for the next Andy Murray.

  5. Post update

    Jeremy Bates

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"The only person who could stop Djokovic is Federer. On his day he has it in him, especially in the short format over three sets. Federer's record in this event is one of the best and it's quite possible. It's a match-up the crowd would love to see. I don't think it's a complete shoe-in for Novak."

  6. Post update

Djokovic can seal his place in the semi-finals and end the year as world number one if he beats Tomas Berdych on Friday. Anyone care to bet against him?

  7. Post update

    Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic: "It was a great match, no question. The opening three games were quite long but after that I managed to get back in the first set. I swung through my shots and he made a lot of unforced errors. He wasn't close to his best and I succeeded very well with what I wanted to do.

On fatherhood: "It's been a different kind of feeling on the court since I became a father. I hope my son can watch me play and support me one day."

  8. Post update

    Colin Fleming

British doubles player on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"From a competitive point of view, the start of the match was exactly what you want to see, but it just turned so quickly. Wawrinka seemed to lose his focus straight away. I think the problem is for Wawrinka to win these matches he has to be an eight or nine out of 10, finding his targets with no margin for error."

  9. Post update

    David Law

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator

"The nature of the way Wawrinka's game fell away was alarming. Then when Djokovic started to turn the screw he had no answer."

  10. Game, set and match Djokovic

    Djokovic 6-3 6-0 Wawrinka

What a way to finish. Djokovic puts away a smash and claims his first match point with a pearler of a forehand down the line. Ruthless.

  11. Post update

    *Djokovic 6-3 5-0 Wawrinka

Another huge cheer for a blazing Wawrinka winner, but unfortunately its only purpose is to save the first of three break points. When a forehand lands beyond the baseline, Djokovic is one game away from the match. When you bear in mind that Wawrinka won the first two games........

  12. Post update

    *Djokovic 6-3 4-0 Wawrinka

A Wawrinka winner brings one of the loudest cheers of the night from the crowd. They came to see a contest, but sadly I don't think it will be long before they are queuing for the Docklands Light Railway. Two unforced errors from the Swiss and it's 4-0.

  13. Post update

    Jeremy Bates

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"It shows from the magnitude of this event that the guys who have come here for the first time -Cilic and Raonic - have been tight and never settled. It is all to do with the size of this event - it means so much and is one of the biggest titles going."

  14. Post update

    Piers Newbery

BBC Sport at the O2 Arena in London

    novak djokovic

"Djokovic is beginning to steamroller Wawrinka, who looks like he could do with the watching Springbok rugby squad to come and help him out. I can now testify that walking round a corner into Victor Matfield is a jarring experience. Not that it would worry Djokovic at the moment, the man is looking invincible."

  15. Post update

    *Djokovic 6-3 3-0 Wawrinka

Even if you put Borg, McEnroe and Connors on the other side o the net, I'm not sure they could contend with Djokovic in this form. The Serb breaks serve to love and strides to his chair.

More thoughts on whether world number one and reigning Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic gets the credit he deserves:

Nuren: "Djokovic is one of the best tennis players in history. He has won 7 slams in most competitive era ever. Djokovic is underrated because of the dominance of both Nadal and Federer for a long time."

John: "Novak Djokovic gets the credit from the pundits & ex players who are the ones that count, the fans hearts are with R&R (Rafa & Roger) - Novak just isn't there."

Keith: ‏"Djokovic doesn't have the charisma of Nadal or Federer, but he does the business on court... like a machine!!"

  17. What a shot!

    Djokovic 6-3 2-0 Wawrinka*

This isn't just tennis from another planet from Djokovic. The world number one has found another solar system. One dream point tells the story of another one-sided game. A blistering forehand is met by a Wawrinka drop shot, but Djokovic bursts to the ball at lightning pace and chips it with the deftest of touches across his opponent for a winner. Wawrinka claps on his racquet, the crowd rise to their feet. Unstoppable.

  18. Post update

    *Djokovic 6-3 1-0 Wawrinka

    Stan Wawrinka

What now, Stan? The Swiss world number four has a go at serve and volley but Djokovic's return is so powerful that he can't control his shot. two break points to Djokovic now. A successful challenge confirms an ace to save the first one. But Djokovic grabs the second and is almost on the home straight now...

  19. Post update

    Colin Fleming

British doubles player on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"I think you can make a very strong case to say Novak Djokovic is getting even better. When he does make a mistake, it is at a point where he can afford to do it, he's got such a great match brain - it's like a high powered computer. That was Novak playing at around six out of 10 yet he was able to win the set 6-3."

  20. Game and first set Djokovic

    Djokovic 6-3 Wawrinka*

    Novak Djokovic

Is the momentum shifting back to Stan again? No chance. Djokovic holds to 15 and the first set is in the bag in 41 minutes. Incredible tennis from the world numero uno.

  21. Post update

    *Djokovic 5-3 Wawrinka

Great game. At 30-30 Wawrinka serves an ace down the middle and screams "come on". But Djokovic's next return is a barn-storming forehand across the court. Several deuces follow, with the world number one looking almost superhuman as he sprints from one side of the court to the other to save a game point. Wawrinka hits back with a devastating backhand pass and finally holds serve when Djokovic misses a forehand.

  22. Post update

    Djokovic 5-2 Wawrinka*

    Novak Djokovic

For the first time in a while, Wawrinka gets into a game at 30-30. But a wayward backhand and a top-edged forehand make it five straight games for Djokovic.

  23. Post update

    David Law

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator

"The margins always seem so small for Wawrinka between being great and terrible. On the plus side, he can ride out these valleys as well and end up peaking once more. Hopefully he'll get his rhythm back because I don't think Djokovic is going anywhere."

  24. Post update

    Piers Newbery

BBC Sport at the O2 Arena in London

"The house is well and truly packed tonight and umpire Mohamed Lahyani, never exactly a shrinking violet, is loving the big-time atmosphere. Few people could make so much of saying "Stop!" "Let!" or "First seerrrrrrvice!"

  25. Post update

    *Djokovic 4-2 Wawrinka

This is one-way traffic at the moment and Djokovic has the ball on a piece of string. Another Wawrinka double fault gives him three break points and Djokovic puts together a lovely point before finishing it with a whipped forehand winner.

  26. Get involved

    Novak Djokovic

We asked you whether Djokovic gets the credit he deserves, here's some thoughts:

Sands says: "Is it because he wins too much? Really, I like to watch a match where the outcome wasn't already decided."

Qalih says: "Novak Djokovic is considered great! Not as great as Rafael Nadal or Roger Federer because he doesn't have the hair!"

On that basis, Qalih, Murray will never be considered great with his unruly mop.

  27. Post update

    Djokovic 3-2 Wawrinka*

Djokovic's run of points is finally broken after 11 on the bounce, but he wins the game to 15 when Wawrinka goes long. The Serb has turned this game around in a flash and suddenly, it is Wawrinka who is climbing up a mountain in flip-flops.

  28. Post update

    *Djokovic 2-2 Wawrinka

Oh dear, Stan is under the cosh now. A double fault hands Djokovic three break points. The world number one steams into a return, it flies off the frame of Wawrinka's racquet, and we're back on level terms.

  29. Post update

    *Djokovic 1-2 Wawrinka

    Stan Wawrinka

What a start from Stan. Djokovic needs to get on the board. And he does. With ease. A hold to love.

  30. Post update

    David Law

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator

"Wawrinka is the only player I can think of who is able to relentlessly knock Djokovic off balance with the sheer weight of his shots."

  31. Post update

    *Djokovic 0-2 Wawrinka

Pressure on Stan now as Djokovic opens up a 0-30 lead, then a break point at 30-40. A 135mph service rocket gets him out of trouble and a blistering forehand pass gives him a 2-0 lead.

  32. Post update

    Djokovic 0-1 Wawrinka*

Wow. If the first game is anything to go by, we could be in for an absolute cracker. Wawrinka wins it, claiming the break at the third time of asking after a game in which he put Djokovic under pressure in every point and hit sparkling winners off both flanks.

  33. Post update

Warm-up and practice serves complete. We're almost ready folks. Djokovic may be all in black but coach Becker is wearing a dazzling blue and orange tracksuit top. No troubles spotting the big man in the crowd, Novak.

  34. The Dark Dj-estroyer

    Novak Djokovic

Breaking news: Djokovic has had a haircut. BBC Radio 5 live sports extra's resident fashion expert David Law says: "Dressed in black, Djokovice looks pretty cool - he's got the Darth Vader look going on."

  35. Post update

    Jeremy Bates

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

"We commentated on this match last year in these finals and the level Djokovic achieved then was amazing. But Wawrinka has got the power, has got the game, and has the best percentage against the top 10 opposition - he's won seven of eight against the top 10 this year."

  36. Post update

    David Law

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra commentator

"This for me is the match of the week so far - mainly because of the history they have had. There's been some absolute classics over the last two years and I've gone berserk in commentary at these two playing each other, more than anybody else. This one is a big one."

  37. Post update

    Boris Becker

Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic has told BBC Sport that his coach Boris Becker adds more to his team than people appreciate, and that their relationship has grown stronger now they understand "what makes us happy and what makes us angry".

Read more from the world number one in Russell Fuller's story and listen to the full interview on BBC Radio 5 live's tennis programme tonight at 21:30 GMT.

  38. Post update

Right on cue, here comes Novak into the arena amid the usual pop music and smoke. The mascot holding his hand has a grin as wide as the Thames.

  39. Get involved

Novak Djokovic is the world number one. In his career he has won 600 matches and only lost 140. He has 47 titles, including seven Grand Slams. Unlike his peers Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, however, he's rarely spoken about as a true great of the game. Why is that? Does he not get the credit he deserves? How many Grand Slams make you great? Do get involved through Twitter,Facebook or text 81111.

    Stan Wawrinka with his fans

Earlier today, Stan Wawrinka posted this picture on Instagram of his unique fan club at the O2 - although if you look carefully at the guys on the back row, they also have 'C'mon Roger' on their tee-shirts.

What happens if the Swiss duo meet in the latter stages? Back to their famous neutrality I suppose.

  41. Post update

    Piers Newbery

BBC Sport at the O2 Arena in London

"After seven matches we could be on the verge of confirming our first semi-finalist, although it does require Wawrinka to beat the two-time defending champion and world number one, who is on a 28-match winning streak indoors. So good luck with that, Stan. For his part, Djokovic will need to wait until Friday to secure his place whatever happens tonight."

  42. Post update

Djokovic and the "Stanimal" hardly broke sweat in their first Group A matches. The Serb thrashed Marin Cilic 6-1 6- 1 and Wawrinka swept aside Tomas Berdych by the same score. Berdych's 6-3 6-1 victory over Cilic earlier this afternoon keeps the Czech in the mix but US Open champion Cilic looks like toast. Our man at the O2 Piers Newbery has more on tonight's permutations...

  43. Head to head

    Novak Djokovic & Stan Wawrinka

These players have met 18 times and Djokovic leads the series 15-3. But Wawrinka will take heart from his epic five-set victory over the Serb on his way to Australian Open glory in Melbourne in May.

  44. Post update

Evening tennis fans. How are you bearing up? Because, let's be honest the ATP World Tour finals has been a bit of a snoozefest so far. We've had seven matches and not a single one of them has gone to a deciding set. Fourteen sets of tennis and only one tie-break.

The tournament is screaming out for a contest to awaken it from its slumber and we may just have one on our hands tonight. It's the world number one Novak Djokovic against Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka and it's coming your way in a matter of minutes.
