"There's still a long way to go but Murray's in this set. You can see Djokovic's disappointment, he's kicking himself for not holding in there. He didn't do a lot wrong."

And, for the second Djoko service game in a row, the Serb chews up Murray's break point and spits it out.

But Murray is not going to be trampled over easily.

A beautifully-executed response by the Briton ends in an unstoppable smash teeing up a second break point, which he snaffles when Djokovic cannot prevent a backhand return flying past the baseline.

Excellent from Murray, who edges 15-0 ahead with a sumptuous backhand volley. But whenever the Briton raises the level, so too does Djokovic. The man is relentless. Like one of those aching headaches that you just can't shift.

The Serb moves 30-15 ahead as he makes a mockery of the Murray backhand - but then Murray charges back to force a break point for the second Djoko service game in a row...

Let's make no excuses here - Murray is not playing well. The Briton sees a gap down the near side at 15-0 - a backhand winner he usually makes with his eyes closed - but steers wide for 15-15.

Tit for tat as Djokovic levels at 30-30, before Murray goes on the front foot, pinning Djokovic back on the baseline.

A heart-in-mouth moment as Djokovic's return clips the top of the net chord...dropping back on the Serb's side of the court for 40-30. That gives Murray encouragement, finishing Novak off with a smash.

George Welsby: If Murray wasn't born into a generation sandwiched between Feds + Djoko he'd of won four or five more Grand Slams.

Anton Wilson: Murray and co all still playing Earth-tennis, whilst Djokovic has moved on. He could probably beat them wearing his spacesuit.

David Bates: Feel for Andy, full of grit & masses of talent but up against best ever at top of his game & finest era of men's tennis too!

No more dog-related analogies. Murray can't convert that break point, crumbling as Djokovic reasserts his authority to cling on to his serve.

Heading into this game we have seen 50 unforced errors from Murray, compared to 30 from Djokovic. That tells you pretty much everything you need to know.

Murray can't even make an unforced error at 0-15 though, as Novak clatters a stunning cross-court forehand into the corner.

Djokovic is snarling more now, showing the aggression of an angry Alsatian as aims to scare Murray off.

The Serb steps forward to smash down for 30-15, but is then sent back to the baseline with his tail between his legs. Murray barks back to claim a break point...

Right then Muzza, please keep this match going long enough so that we all don't have to switch over and watch one of those rubbish Sunday morning cooking chatshow things.

So far so good. The Briton shrugs off that opening surrender of serve, eventually, after a nervy moment at 30-30.

But the second seed rediscovers his touch to batter Novak's backhand into submission and seal his first game of the third set.

Jay Taylor: What a story it'll be when Murray comes back from two sets and a break down.

Dan Robb: When I'm playing Fifa & I know I'm not going to win, I just turn off the Playstation. What's the equivalent here?

George: Oh dear Andy! But where there is hope there is still time.Your game is there, if only you were not playing such a formidable champion.

Djokovic is a man in a hurry. A bit like a man who steps out into the Salford rain without a brolly. The Serb rattles through his opening service game of the third set. To love.

Wow. Simply stunning stuff from Novak Djokovic.

Murray gives him another helping hand by smashing into the net...15-40, two break points to the Serb.

One slips by the wayside but then...Djokovic somehow reaches a deep Murray incision, stretching to his left with a double backhand. Not only does the top seed reach the ball, he arcs it around the net post, smack bang onto the tramline.

Murray's serving was excellent at times in that second set, making Djokovic think about and work hard for his returns. That MUST continue in the third set if he is going take this match beyond that. Stating the obvious I know...

Djokovic grabs himself by the scruff of the neck and lifts himself off that hook...

Or, perhaps more accurately, it was Murray who did the job for him. Break point is slapped back into the tape by Murray, before the Briton's returning game disintegrates without being overloaded by Djokovic's serve.

Now Murray must come back from two sets down if he is going to win his first Australian Open. He's never come back from such a deficit to beat the Serb...

Is it a man or a machine? It's a question often asked of Novak Djokovic. Turns out he is human. The Serb double faults at 30-15 to give Murray a sniff.

Oh my word. This is remarkable. Djoko doubles faults again! Make a note of that one kids - remember where you were when you saw the great Novak Djokovic double double fault.

    Break point Murray...
