  3. "A pretty strong team"published at 19:16 British Summer Time 14 June 2016

    Murray 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-1) Mahut

Andy Murray speaking to BBC Sport: "It was tough. Nico won the tournament last week and is a very accomplished grass-court player. With the weather like it is, we have not been able to get out and hit over the past few days.

"It is frustrating for both of us when the court is slippy because you want to get in the position to play your best tennis. Hopefully he did not hurt himself too much in that last set because no-one wants that with Wimbledon round the corner.

"Ivan doesn't give any signs during the match. He has a pretty straight face. But it is great to have him back and, working with Jamie Delgado, I think it is a pretty strong team. Hopefully they can help me win more big events."

Former British number one on BBC Red Button

"That was a super match. Mahut played well and would have beaten a lot of the other players here but he was unlucky to come up against Murray.

"It's very easy to be flat after a Grand Slam where you get to the finals. It's tough to be fired up from the first point but Murray was."

A delicious drop-shot sneaks over the net by the bristles on the ball as Nicolas Mahut gets on the board in the tie-break.

Andy Murray slugs away behind his own tee-off to bring up 4-1. And then a lovely dipping backhand pass leaves Mahut looking like a spare part at a net party.

Still just the one mini-break up though.

He backs it up with another on his own serve. And a third. Nicolas Mahut slipped nastily as he tries to change direction there.

The Frenchman is back on his feet, but looking pretty tender as he prepares to serve.

Nicolas Mahut shows the judgement of Solomon as he leaves a fizzing Andy Murray forehand on his way into the net.

The Frenchman looks over his shoulder and sees the ball land a couple of millimetres long.

That means that 15-30 turns to 15-40, rather than the lot less comfy 30-30.

Nicolas Mahut plunges to his left to pat away a volley winner at 30-30.

Andy Murray is far less sure-footed though. He is only slightly more comfortable than Bambi on ice at the baseline, skidding, sliding and fearing for his tendons.

He looks decidedly peeved as he heads back to his stool.

"Do something about it," he tells the umpire as he sits down. "It's always the same."
