Nicolas Mahut only needs to do the same a couple more times though to take this match to a third and deciding set.
They are also playing catch-up in the women's tournament in Birmingham, the Aegon Classic, where Britons Naomi Broady and Tara Moore (pictured) are both on court and involved in close first-round matches.

Nicolas Mahut is playing a game as classically French as a Gauloises fug in a jazz cafe.
The 34-year-old is scampering around the Queen's Club on tip-toes, covering every blade and stroking away deft groundstrokes and precise volleys.
He holds serve and Andy Murray has a little changeover chunter to the umpire, asking if they are going to play deep into the evening even if the court gets slippery with dew.

Nicolas Mahut with some velvet-glove stuff at the net brings up 0-30.
A Murray forehand is called long at 15-30. Hawk-Eye swoops to the rescue. It was in by a couple of inches.
But Murray sprays one wide off that same wing to offer up 30-40 and break point Mahut.
First serve missed. Second is returned deep by Mahut, who chases it up.
Up goes the lob, down comes the smash and the Frenchman is a break up.

The theory runs that Ivan Lendl's steely gaze zapping down from his players' box means that Murray thinks twice about taking out his frustrations on his own camp.
Certainly he has been pretty positive out there so far against a pretty testing opponent.

One chap at the back of the queue for the exit bottles it as the umpire gets testy, re-taking his seat and leaving his thirst unquenched.

That was a tug of war and it is Andy Murray who wrestles the first set back into his corner as Nicolas Mahut folds under some net pressure.

Andy Murray swats a forehand into the middle of the net to bring a rally to an end and give Nicolas Mahut his first set point at 8-7 up.
It is on the Murray serve though. First missed. The second is a bold pump down the T though. Fended into the net. 8-8 all.
Another crafty serve, another netted return and Murray has 9-8 with Mahut to serve...

A big serve, but a block return sends the ball right up onto Murray's toes. Taken by surprise, Murray's forehand down the line is a fraction wide.

And then Andy Murray is caught by surprise by the depth of the Frenchman's return. Mini-break snatched back. 4-4.
