  1. Konta into the last eightpublished at 19:02 British Summer Time 22 June 2016

Another big scalp to add to a collection that already includes Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep, Venus Williams and Roberta Vinci for Johanna Konta.

Many apologies for the loss of pictures from Eastbourne for some time during that third set. I hope you managed to catch the last couple of games when they returned and will join us tomorrow to see if Konta can make the semi-finals.

    Bye for now.

Johanna Konta speaking to BBC Sport: "There are not words big enough to describe the support you the crowd have shown me, I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

"Both of us were playing at a really good level in parts and struggling to keep that up in others and I think I just managed to string a few points together today.

"I am really happy that I was able to maintain my level as well as i could.

"Both Makarova and Petkovic are world-class players. I'm going to work on recovering now and getting ready for whoever I play."

Kvitova's energy levels have really dipped and she must be wondering how on earth she is in this predicament. But how well Konta has put the disappointment of losing that first set behind her.

Petra Kvitova prods a little cross-court shot just wide.

    Hawk-Eye can't save her.

Johanna Konta has a chance to serve out for the last eight.

And even if she doesn't this time, there are another two identical chances already loaded up in the pipeline.

Never mind the wheels, the axle, gearbox and furry dice have also fallen off Petra Kvitova's wagon.

Johanna Konta is calmly picking off the carrion and, after failing to convert two break points at 15-40, gets the job done at a third attempt.

Johanna Konta chalks off one of the five service holds needed to to tie up this match.

Not a lot coming in the opposite direction from Petra Kvitova - just the one point nibbled off the Briton's serve.

This match has more ebbs, flows, twists and turns than the Amazon.

Petra Kvitova looks like she has run her batter flat. She offers up two break points and Johanna Konta pounces on the first.

The Devonshire Park crowd are warming up nicely in the evening sun, but you sense there are still a few shocks and surprises left in the narrative.

Petra Kvitova's serves seem to be cannoning into stacked baked bean cans at the back of the court.

There is a mighty metallic clatter as the ball streaks past Johanna Konta.

I'm not sure what is back there, but the sound gets replayed a fair few times as she cruises to love service hold.

Johanna Konta takes first blood in the second set.

But she took first blood in the opener. And second blood. And still ended up swept away by Petra Kvitova's power.

Steady now. A solid service hold required in the next game.
