    Basilashvili 4-4 Edmund*

    The commentators' curse strikes again!

Consecutive errors from Nikoloz Basilashvili, and some neat play from Kyle Edmund, earns the Briton three break points.

He misses out on the first, he misses out on the second, he hits long on the third. We got to deuce.

We flit between advantages...and the Georgian rescues it. Just.

    *Basilashvili 3-4 Edmund

Kyle Edmund goes 40-15 up and once again finishes off his service game with an ace.

Very little between these two. Both tall, both strong, both getting some impressive oomph behind the ball.

Could be a long night on court six.

    Basilashvili 3-3 Edmund*

The smash-and-grabs continue in this one.

Nikoloz Basilashvili races through his service game to draw level with Kyle Edmund.

A pigeon has just flown across the court. Seriously, dude, if you get in the way of one of these returns from the big Georgian then you're done for.

    *Basilashvili 2-3 Edmund

Basilashvili has Edmund on the back-foot early doors. It's 0-15.

They go level on 30-30 before Edmund wrong-foots his Georgian opponent, and an ace sees the Briton hold.

Routine from both players so far.

    *Basilashvili 2-1 Edmund

If I could sum up Basilashvili's game it would be "smash the ball as hard as you can, over and over again".

Kyle Edmund is pinned right back against the wall and is being tested. It's 30-30.

The Briton does an Andy Murray-style fist pump as Basilashvili fails to return his serve on two occasions.

Edmund takes a 2-1 lead early doors.

    Basilashvili 1-1 Edmund*

Nikoloz Basilashvili is very, very strong. He smashes returns left and right across the clay to go 40-0 up.

Edmund fights back to 40-30, but an unplayable forehand sees the Georgian hold his serve.

    *Basilashvili 0-1 Edmund

Kyle Edmund gets us under way... but he loses the first point on his second serve.

The Briton recovers to 40-30 and holds to take the first game. Nicely done.

    French Open 2016

    Russell Fuller
    BBC tennis correspondent in Paris

"British players are going to be scurrying on to court now. Andy Murray could be on in an hour's time, Kyle Edmund on court six very shortly and Naomi Broady will be on soon too.

"Andy Murray would rather win tonight than have a break and have to come back but will he have enough time to finish his match?

"It's gloomy but perhaps three more hours of light tonight. It's possible he could win in straight sets."

Heather Watson reaches French Open second round

Heather Watson's done the double. She's got to the second round in Paris and has also done enough to secure qualification for the Rio Olympics this summer.

    Hurrah!

Watson will now face 13th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the next round.

    Gibbs 7-5 2-6 2-6 Watson

Bing, bang, boosh. Britain's Heather Watson is through. That didn't take long in the end, did it?

An overhead volley down the left of Nicole Gibbs sees Watson seal it after going 15-40 up.

Gibbs throws her raquet down in frustration. Now, now. No need for that.

    *Gibbs 7-5 2-6 2-5 Watson

Watson lands her second ace of the match to lead 30-15.

But Gibbs isn't going down lightly. The American forces her way to deuce.

An overhead smash-bang-wallop volley from Watson gives her the advantage...but a thumping rally goes in Gibbs' favour. Back to deuce again.

There's push-pull, back and forth, before Watson eventually holds her serve as Gibbs hits long.

The British number two is now one game away from the second round. Phew.

  19. Watson breaks serve againpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 23 May 2016

    Gibbs 7-5 2-6 2-4 Watson*

A smashing forehand into the corner gives Heather Watson the lead on Nicole Gibbs' serve.

And another quality forehand into the back right corner makes it 0-30.

Now a triple break point to the British number two! She's really rattled Gibbs.

A double-handed backhand to the baseline wins it. A brilliant break from Watson.

    *Gibbs 7-5 2-6 2-3 Watson

A simple but effective single-handed backhand from Watson puts her 15-0 up.

Make that 30-0 with a sweet, well-balanced double-hander this time.

But Gibbs forces her way back in to make it deuce as errors creep into Watson's return shots.

The Brit takes the advantage with a beautiful volley on the turn, and she eventually holds her serve.
