Joel McInally: Embarrassing behaviour from Djokovic. Could easily have been defaulted for throwing his racket. Unsportsmanlike and dangerous.

Djokovic gains the advantage and quickly finishes off the game to hold.

He's still looking quite grumpy, mind.

    Djokovic 6-3 7-5 2-2 *Berdych

Novak Djokovic moves to 30-0 before snatching at a forehand and it ploughs into the net.

A big forehand from Berdych down the line levels the score at 30-all.

And now Berdych has break point...but an unforced error moves them to deuce.

Advantage Berdych and another break point but it's rescued once again by the world number one, thanks to a perfect forehand.

    Back to deuce again.

    *Djokovic 6-3 7-5 2-2 Berdych

Novak Djokovic crumples his face in anguish as he hits a third consecutive shot into the net.

Berdych leads 40-0...that is until Djokovic smashes  a 121mph return in anger to steal a point. Wowzers, he really meant that.

Berdych does hold his serve, though, and opts to change his racquet shortly after.

Instead of lobbing his racquet around in anger, Djokovic is now using the it in the right way - to whack it past Berdych.

A fantastic forehand winner low over the net leaves Berdych in no man's land, and the Serb slides forward to gently tip over the net to take his service game.

He doesn't look happy about the court conditions, though. Discussions continue about the rain, which is still falling. The umpire insists they will play on.

Daily Mail writer Mike Dickson on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "I think Novak Djokovic is lucky that the line judge has pretty good reflexes to get out the way.

"If that racquet had hit the official square in the chest then it would have been in default territory."

    *Djokovic 6-3 7-5 1-1 Berdych

Djokovic moves to 0-30 but as he goes for a chipped winner, it clips the top of the net and rolls the wrong side.

Berdych lands an ace to make it 30-all but a sublime, low, backhand from Djokovic sees him earn break point.

But Berdych brings it to deuce and Djokovic has a proper strop, throwing down his racquet in the disgust. It spins behind him and luckily no-one gets hit. He holds his hands up to apologise. Could have been awkward, that.

The Serb cools his jets and snaps Berdych's serve over his knee instead to level up the third set.

Tomas Berdych disappears off court to go and change his top. Apparently it's too cold to do it on the clay. And they say British weather is bad...

He's come back out with some new zebra skin on and it's done him some good - he snatches the first two points on Djokovic's serve.

A wonderful backhand winner makes it 0-40 before Djokovic hits long. Berdych breaks to love!

    *Djokovic 6-3 7-5 Berdych

This set has been much more of a challenge for Djokovic but he's finsihed it off with ease.

The world number one has three break points and Berdych slams a forehand wide to hand his opponent the second set.

And look out...the umbrellas are appearing again. There may be trouble ahead...

It is surprisingly empty around Roland Garros, although it appears to be filling up a little bit now. The Parisians are obviously late risers.

I feel like I'm repeating myself.

The third consecutive hold to love - this time to Djokovic.

The Serb sits down to ponder his next move. Can he break to take the second set?

    *Djokovic 6-3 5-5 Berdych

Berdych, up close and personal with the net, pins Djokovic into the right-hand corner of the court, pelting the ball directly at his opponent before a forehand winner in the opposite direction.

The Czech finishes off his service game to love, thanks to a blistering ace. Very much level-pegging now.

I asked what Djokovic was going to throw Berdych's way.

How about a hold to love? That ought to do it.

Guardian writer Kevin Mitchell on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra: "I still suspect that Novak Djokovic will find something to close out this set, but he seemed to go to sleep a little there.

"There was also a little hiccup with his balance on that final shot which he played from an unsteady base. It was strange, but something that we have seen before when his form wobbles."

Berdych is on a roll now and the pressure is back on Novak Djokovic.

The Czech holds his serve as Djokovic hits into the net.

The Serb kicks his heels against his racquet like a riled horse. What's he going to throw at Berdych now?

Oh, hello. The tables are turning.

Djokovic's forehand finds the net and Berdych moves to 0-30.

No, wait make that 0-40. A down-the-middle forehand blast gives him triple break point.

One chalked off as Berdych hits wide. And another one, after the ball fails to find the bottom corner.

One more to go...a HUGE roar from Berdych. Djokovic's forehand goes long and he's broken for the first time.

There's raw anger in the right arm of Tomas Berdych.

He smashes past Djokovic with some force to move to 30-15.

A forehand winner on the line moves him to 40-15 and he blitzes the same shot straight down court to hold.

After going down a break early in the opener, David Goffin has managed to wrestle the first set back home, taking it 6-4 against Dominic Thiem.

The Belgian is already into uncharted territory. He has never been beyond the last 16 of a Grand Slam before.

A bit of fightback from Berdych. He snatches two points on Djokovic's serve to go 30-all.

But the Serb won't be turned over this time. He holds again. Mini fist pump for the world number one.
