    *Williams 5-7 3-5 Muguruza

Hummm. Garbine Muguruza notches her fifth double fault of the set. Not ideal.

Luckily for her, she smashes over her third ace of the match to make things better.

And she overpowers Williams with a deep second serve to move to 40-15.

Another ace sees her hold and leaves her one game away from her first Grand Slam title. Wow.

Matthew Vernon: I can't be the only one thinking how refreshing it is to see a player go toe to toe with Serena. First since Henin?

    Williams 5-7 3-4 Muguruza*

Williams looks cool and composed as she moves to 30-0. She's not panicking just yet.

But Muguruza remains aggressive. She powers a backhand winner to snatch away a point from the world number one.

The American steadies herself and takes the game.

The pair do battle in two powerful rallies. Williams puts too much behind the ball and sends two wide of the lines.

Muguruza clenches her fist with joy as she holds. She's two games away from the trophy now.

    Williams 5-7 2-3 Muguruza*

I'm not a massive fan of players screaming and shouting on court, but when Serena does it you know she's pumped up for the fight, and we like a good scrap here.

She's 40-0 up, and although Muguruza pulls it back to 40-30, Williams is able to see it out.

And she lets out a lionesses-like roar to celebrate.

Do either of you want to hold serve for a bit? Ah, you do Garbine. Good news.

The fourth seed moves two games up in the second set with a forehand winner cross-court.

As the old proverb says: "If in doubt, whack an ace down the middle".

Williams does just that to take the opening point before Muguruza takes control to move to 15-30 with another wonderful forehand winner.

The world number one hits into the net with a backhand and it's double break point to the Spaniard.

And Garbine Muguruza breaks AGAIN to lead 2-1. Blimey.

    *Williams 5-7 1-1 Muguruza

Serena Williams has regrouped and now it's her chance to grab a break.

Muguruza saves it with an ace to move to deuce but the advantage moves to Williams as the fourth seed hits into the net.

They both grunt and screech their way across the back of the court and it's Muguruza who wins out with a forehand. Deuce again.

But Williams takes the game after two double faults from Muguruza. Costly.

Nana K: I think Serena is mentally weak and the heavy defeat of 2014 by Muguruza is going through her head. Still Serena...

    Williams 5-7 0-1 Muguruza*

What's the world number one got up her sleeve?

Erm, well, at the moment, she's got a few errors. Williams is 15-30 down.

Make that 15-40, as Muguruza smashes cross-court. Two break points.

But she only needs one. The Spaniard is on fire (not literally).

"Garbine Muguruza is playing in her first clay-court final today. The last player to play their first clay-court final at the French Open was Natasha Zvereva in 1988."

Zvereva lost 6-0 6-0 to Steffi Graf in 34 minutes.

    *Williams 5-6 Muguruza

The crowd are well behind Garbine Muguruza as she takes the advantage and earns set point.

On her second serve, she invites Williams into an aggressive exchange and the American comes out on top by slamming a forehand winner into empty space.

    Back to deuce.

But Williams sends into the net and Muguruza has set point again...but she puts a forehand waaaaaaaaay past the whitewash. Deuce again.

    *Williams 5-6 Muguruza

Serena Williams is doing her bit. She nabs the first point on Muguruza's serve.

And she moves to 15-30 as she launches aforehand winner straight down the middle whilst dangling in mid-air.

Muguruza double faults and hands Williams two break points.

The Spaniard saves one and saves a second with a wonderful ace. To deuce we go.

"Muguruza looks very composed on the court. She is putting a lot of pressure on Serena Williams and not showing any signs of nerves. Yes, she is making mistakes once in a while, but that's because she is playing a very aggressive style of tennis."
