    Murray 4-6 1-0 *Del Potro

Andy Murray plucks a sixth and seventh ace out of the quiver to turn 15-30 to 40-30.

That pours some petrol on the embers inside.

    A bark of self-congratulation.

And Juan Martin del Potro is pulled all out of shape as Murray holds off his challenge.

Thomas: Woohoo! 1st set #DelPo!! That backhand is quite something to behold

Paul McFadden: DelPo is looking incredible. No mistakes. Machine gun forehand. Murray needs to dig deep!

Not quite no mistakes, but pretty much. Juan Martin del Potro made just four unforced errors in a first set stretching over an hour. Murray made 13 by contrast.

I haven't seen the meltdown Murray had against Nishikori in the US Open quarter-finals.

Mentally, so far, he has managed to hold things in.

    Murray 4-6 Del Potro

Juan Martin del Potro ambles around apologetically between points like an applicant awaiting a job interview.

When the ball is in play though, he is snarling monster.

He holds serve to love to pack away the first set, Leon Smith is down on courtside to whisper some sweet nothings into the shell-like of Andy Murray.

Murray hasn't quite got the balance right. He had made few too many errors, perhaps he is pushing a little too much.

I know it is not Murray's game to come into the net too much but I like the play of him coming in on the Del Potro backhand.

Andy Murray keeps his cards on the table in the opening set with a whipped forehand winner.

It will be in vain though - a footnote on the scoreboard - if Juan Martin del Potro holds serve in the next game to serve out.

Time to dust off that drop-shot and get a little daredevil?

    Consistency alloyed to crushing power.

As super-materials go, Juan Martin del Potro's tennis is up there with graphene.

Del Potro prevailed in a 41-shot rally of duck, dive, bluff and counter, before his blunderbus serve brings the next to a quicker conclusion/

    A hold to love.

Andy is talking to the bench. I am not sure if it is about racquet tension but he is not happy at the moment.

It is a fine match so far from both players, the quality has been amazing.

Del Potro is just not making an error.

Andrew Neill: I hope @andy_murray got a lot of rest over the last week as this will be a gruelling match. So exciting though!!!

Jiten Chandarana: The heavy backhand slice up the line to Juan's forehand may be key as Juan's forehand is very flat, tough to control

Juan Martin del Potro finds another angle from off the protractor and Murray - sinews pinging - cannot cram back into court.

    Another break point.

Murray looks down the line, but he snap-hooks his forehand into the top of the net.

He is behind for the first time in the match. Not much time left to save the opener either.

Trouble here for the home crowd's man.

Stationed at the net, Juan Martin del Potro sucks all the venom out of a Murray groundstroke and cushions away a deadly drop volley for 0-30.

More pressure from Del Potro, And two break points at 15-40!

The Del Potro forehand is so simple.

Murray has hit more unforced errors than Del Potro but he has hit the most.

I would have thought it would have been the other way around.

Juan Martin del Potro loads up his forehand like a Roman trebuchet and flings winners into the corners as he holds to love.

A quick blow on his grip, as if the air resistance on those giant swishes has warmed the graphite, and the Argentine is ready to receive.

That one-two punch of a drop-shot into the front court and then a winner expertly steered into the space behind proves the key for Andy Murray once again.

It feels that Murray will have to get Del Potro moving up and down the court rather than just side to side to get this donw.

    *Murray 2-2 Del Potro

Andy Murray has had a good deal of early success with bringing Juan Martin del Potro to the net and then threading a winner around or over the Argentine.

A dead-eyed backhand punch brings up 30-15 as Murray computes the angles in an instant.

Del Potro's depth and power from the baseline though mean that Murray is playing too many shots as if on the back of a punt rather than planted on a platform.

A backhand wide and we are to deuce once more.

Juan Martin del Porto slugs a bazooka serve down the T to bring the scoreboard back to parity.

He has got the perverbial good touch for a big man as well. Andy Murray is slicing and probing from the baseline, but has not yet mixed up a cocktail of shots that can make Del Potro wobble.
