    Evans 6-5 Bagnis*

Uh oh. First break point of the match for Facundo Bagnis... What a response from Dan Evans!

Evo spanks down a howitzer of an ace straight down the 'T', following up with a neatly-constructed point to take advantage in deuce.

And a vocal-chord stretching whoop from the Brit greets a long forehand from the Argentine. Big hold.

Andy Murray has a lot of improving to do if he's going to win that title, but he's into the next round and he has that opportunity.

    *Evans 5-5 Bagnis

Nope, Dan Evans does not manage to stick the first set in his back pocket. In fact he gets nowhere near it. An easy hold to love for Facundo Bagnis.

  6. Next up, Rublevpublished at 07:19 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 Marchenko

That wasn't always comfortable for Andy Murray, but the world number one has successfully overcome the at times tricky challenge of Ukraine's Illya Marchenko to set up a second-round meeting with Russia's world number 152 Andrey Rublev.

The qualifier beat Yen-Hsun Lu 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-0) 6-3 to progress from round one.

  7. 'Murray won't be hugely concerned'published at 07:17 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Russell Fuller
BBC tennis correspondent on Radio 5 live sports extra

It was a very hot afternoon and therefore I think you could say Murray expended a little more energy than he would wish. His first serve will be a concern - it can't be easy serving in the sun, the heat is not really a huge factor for him. All in all, he looked in pretty good spirits. I don't think he'll be hugely concerned but there are things to work on.

    Evans 4-3 Bagnis

Dan Evans had a sniff of break in Facundo Bagnis' first service game - none have wafted his way since.

The British number three, a couple beads of sweat dripping down his forehead in the late Melbourne sun, looks comfortable enough with the ball in hand though.

A hold to love in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it game for the 26-year-old Brummie.

  9. 'I'm hoping to go one better'published at 07:11 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 Marchenko

Andy Murray is asked what he should be called now: "Andy, I'm sure," he responds.

Asked how it felt to be number one, Murray said: "With the guys that have been on the Tour the last 10 or 12 years, three of the best players to have played the game, it's been tough.

"I kept working and trying to find ways to get better. Having those guys around me has helped a lot. I finally managed to get there.

"I've never won here, I'm hoping to go one better this year."

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 Marchenko*

That's a hopeful challenge from Marchenko as Murray plays a backhand winner down the line, he follows up with a forehand that sends Marchenko scrambling backwards and the Ukrainian can only send his return long and wide.

That's the match for Murray, finally, in two hours and 48 minutes, and his spot in round two secured.

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 5-2 Marchenko*

Well those are the sort of shots we've been waiting for from the world number one. Forced deep towards the back of the court but he finds the power to hammer home a forehand winner.

But it remains inconsistent from Murray, faced with a similar scenario on his backhand this time he forces his shot long to make it 30-30.

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 5-2 Marchenko*

A wickedly dipping and swerving second serve from Murray is met confidently by Marchenko, and the Scot pulls his backhand wide.

He follows up with an ace. 15-15.

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 5-2 Marchenko*

Another big serve, and that's the game for Marchenko. He holds on for now, but it's Murray with the chance to serve out the match.

  14. Postpublished at 07:01 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 5-1 Marchenko

Well Marchenko isn't going to make it that easy for the Scot, he fires down three service winners with barely a breath in between, before Murray finds a response and pushes a forehand out of the Ukrainian's reach.

  15. Postpublished at 07:00 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 5-1 Marchenko

A big serve from Murray sends him back into the lead, and he gets the better of Marchenko in the rally that follows to force a mistake from his opponent and move within a game of the second round.

    Murray 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 4-1 Marchenko*

Ooo, lovely from Murray. He nonchalantly pokes a racquet at a Marchenko forehand that looked to have passed him and pops it back into play.

Marchenko responds a point later by showing off his repertoire with a well-executed lob to make it 30-15 and then pulls level.

    Evans 2-1 Bagnis*

Decent start from British number three Dan Evans. A break point is sandwiched in between a couple of comfortable holds, but Bagnis survives. As you were.

Interesting contrast in the fashion stakes too. Bagnis has turned up in what appears to be a zebra fancy dress costume, Evo goes for a simple navy tee which he, may or may not, have bought from the Bullring back in Brum.

  18. Murray breaks againpublished at 06:56 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 4-1 Marchenko

Marchenko's wayward shots are becoming too common. He can't punish Murray and instead pulls a backhand wide to give the Scot a break point.

And Murray takes it - an attempted crosscourt forehand from Marchenko catches the top of the net and bounces harmlessly wide of the line.

  19. Postpublished at 06:54 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 3-1 Marchenko

Lovely stuff from Murray, he uses the pace of that Marchenko serve to just guide the ball back into the open half of the court and take the point.

Marchenko doesn't seem impressed, his response is to hammer down an ace.

  20. Challengepublished at 06:52 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 7-6 (7-5) 3-1 Marchenko

Inch perfect from Murray. His serve catches the far line and brings a challenge from Marchenko, but it's spot on from the Scot.

Marchenko attacks Murray's second serve on the next point and fires a forehand winner, but the next return is long from the winner and Murray holds serve.
