    Murray* 7-5 6-5 Marchenko

Framed it. But Marchenko gets away with it as his attempted smash falls inside the line. Murray's less than impressed.

He can have no complaints about the next one, mind, as Marchenko lines up a forehand winner and hammers it down court.

    Murray* 7-5 6-5 Marchenko

Murray's last two shots have been probably his best all game. He opens up and guides a forehand neatly beyond the reach of Marchenko.

An ace from the Ukrainian levels it up.

  3. What a shot!published at 06:14 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray 7-5 6-5 Marchenko*

Pivotal moment for Marchenko on a break point. But he tamely puts one into the net, having looked so aggressive all game.

Now it's Murray with the advantage, and he responds to a Marchenko slice with a sublime lob that soars above the Ukrainian and drops inside the baseline with plenty of room to spare.

Beautiful from the world number one.

    Murray 7-5 5-5 Marchenko*

Another wayward backhand from Murray drifts wide. Penny for Ivan Lendl's thoughts?

A Murray forehand is called wide on the next play and the Scot challenges, but he's got this one wrong. It's well wide.

    Murray 7-5 5-5 Marchenko*

Ooo, a bullet of a Marchenko forehand looked like it had just found the line but it's wide and that gives Murray a chance to win the game.

But the world number 95 doesn't make the same mistake from his next shot, he opens up to hit a powerful winner and leave Murray motionless.

    Murray 7-5 5-5 Marchenko*

Murray goes to serve but decides to wait for a noisy plane to pass overhead, that doesn't stop his first serve going wide and Marchenko is able to make it difficult for the Scot on his second. He looks for a sliced drop shot but it finds the net.

More clinical from Murray on the next point. Serve, winner, followed by the same again. 30-15.

    Murray* 7-5 5-5 Marchenko

After praising Marchenko's net play, he waltzes into that one and then wildly smashes it way beyond the baseline.

Murray is just as angry with his next shot, he forces it long to make it 40-30 to Marchenko, and then the Ukrainian puts Murray away to win the game.

    Murray* 7-5 5-4 Marchenko

Marchenko is serving to stay in this set and he gets off to a good start with a neat half-volley that drops deftly over the net and doesn't leave Murray with enough bounce to play with.

He follows up by forcing the Scot wide and the result is the same, an attempted Murray return ruffling the net.

    Murray* 7-5 5-4 Marchenko

A dominant finish to that game for Murray and Marchenko has no answer to a big forehand winner. That's three games in a row for the Scot, and he moves ahead in the set.

  11. Postpublished at 06:01 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray 7-5 4-4 Marchenko*

Marchenko is standing so deep on Murray's serve, even his second serve, but he attacks the space as soon as he's played a return and the Scot is almost caught a little bit by surprise.

The problem for the Ukrainian is consistency, he can't win enough consecutive points to punish Murray and the Scot makes it 40-30.

    Murray 7-5 4-4 Marchenko*

There are a few errors creeping into Marchenko's game again now, he took the upper hand with the initial break in this set but Murray has gradually worked his way back into it.

Saying that, that's another double fault for the world number one. A fourth of the match.

    Murray 7-5 4-4 Marchenko*

Finally, Andy Murray gets the break he's been searching for.

Marchenko is visibly gutted about that one, he just doesn't lift his forehand high enough and it clips the net, before dropping wide.

    Murray* 7-5 3-4 Marchenko

Big point. Big shot from the world number 95. He forces Murray wide and the Scot can't lift his return beyond the net.

But it's another break point for Murray after a series of sliced backhands sees Marchenko go far too long in return.

  15. Postpublished at 05:54 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 3-4 Marchenko

Marchenko isn't prepared to make it easy for Murray, and he shows his frustration at a misplaced forehand that finds the net.

There's even more frustration from the Ukrainian as he allows Murray a chance to break back with another shot into the net, this time on his backhand.

  16. Postpublished at 05:52 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 3-4 Marchenko

"Come on", says Murray as he takes the first point on Marchenko's serve. A fan responds with "there's only one Judy Murray" - work that one out?

But Marchenko levels up and then pulls ahead on the next point after a long rally, and it's more of a frustrated grunt from Murray this time.

  17. Challengepublished at 05:49 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray* 7-5 3-4 Marchenko

There was some serious aggression in that serve and volley from Murray, who comes into the net and smashes a forceful winner.

Murray's serve is then called out, but he challenges and Hawk-Eye says otherwise. A relieved Murray takes the game.

    Murray 7-5 2-4 Marchenko*

Murray needed that. An ace at deuce puts him back ahead. But again Marchenko fights back, wrong-footing the world number with a well-disguised backhand.

Murray's next serve forces his opponent nice and wide, but again Marchenko pulls it back to deuce with a brilliant backhand winner.

  19. Postpublished at 05:45 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray 7-5 2-4 Marchenko*

Some serious slice on Murray's second serve sends Marchenko scuttling towards the stands and the Scot gives himself the advantage.

But the second serve isn't so good on the next point and after Marchenko engages him in a rally it's Murray who finds the net.

  20. Postpublished at 05:43 Greenwich Mean Time 16 January 2017

    Murray 7-5 2-4 Marchenko*

Murray fires down a serve that he thinks is in and then shoots a glare at the line judge who calls it out, but he takes the point after a wayward Marchenko return on his second serve.

The Ukrainian pulls it back to deuce though as he attacks the net and anticipates Murray's attempted drop shot.
