Right, can Murray close it out this time?

He goes back to the drop shot but it sits up nicely for Del Potro to hammer it past Murray.

Del Potro spoons the ball into the crowd yet again, before overworking a forehand - that's two set points for Murray...

Oh! Wonderful from Murray, mixing up his shots, bringing Del Potro forward before eventually lobbing over him.

He'll serve for the second set - again.

Game, set and match - Andersonpublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 3 June 2017

    Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 4-6 Anderson

    Now it's over.

Anderson moves into the net to volley himself 40-30 ahead, then hammers down a hefty first serve that Edmund can only bat back into the net.

Not to be for the British number two today in the end.

But he can be more than happy with his performance, both today and at Roland Garros over the past week.

He has reached the third round in Paris for the first time and pushed a former top-10 player all the way.

  6. Del Potro saves three break pointspublished at 14:14 British Summer Time 3 June 2017

    Murray 7-6 (10-8) 5-5 Del Potro*

Oops. This is a little messy from Del Potro and suddenly, Murray has three break points as Del Potro's forehand and the net become well acquainted.

Del Potro saves the first with a big serve and responds well again, throwing an overhead Murray's way, and now it's just one break point for the Briton.

And he's saved it! Brilliant, brilliant work from Del Potro, a huge serve that Murray somehow returns before Del Potro fizzed that forehand beyond him. Decue!

    Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 4-5 Anderson*

Even the most experienced players suffer from nerves. Anderson, the 31-year-old former world number 10, leads 30-0 and then coughs up a double fault.

And a tight forehand then drags Edmund level at 30-30. This ain't over yet...

    Murray 7-6 (10-8) 5-5 Del Potro*

More furious mutterings from Murray as Del Potro gets the advantage - and the crowd start up a cheer of 'Delpo!' - but that's a poor return from Murray, and Del Potro has broken back!

Excellent resilience from the Argentine, pushing back at Murray at the most crucial time. Matches between these two are never simple, eh?!

  10. Edmund loses servepublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 3 June 2017

    Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 4-5 Anderson*

Dammit. We've just jinxed Kyle Edmund.

The British number two's serve has looked pretty solid in recent games - then Kevin Anderson decides to turn on the gas.

A forehand winner down the line tees up two break points for the South African... he only needs one.

    Sorry Kyle.

    *Murray 7-6 (10-8) 5-4 Del Potro

Murray saves the first break point with a fine pacey serve - and then the second with a spinning backhand that Del Potro makes a real mess of returning. Excellent work from Murray, and he's within two points of the second set.

    *Murray 7-6 (10-8) 5-4 Del Potro

Here we go, Murray serving for the second set, but there's a huge cheer for Del Potro as he picks up Murray's slice and dabs it over the net.

Twice the umpire asks for quiet - and in much politer terms than I'd have managed - but the noise cranks up again as Del Potro draws the error out of Murray's backhand. The Brit fumes with himself and recovers as Del Potro's loopy lob lands well out.

This is furious stuff now, both players pushed to either end of the court, and somehow, Del Potro has got himself back into this game with a fine, fizzing forehand! He's up two break points!

    *Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 4-4 Anderson

This tennis doctor is dishing out prescriptions all over the place. A hold to love for Anderson now.

We're almost at the four-hour mark. I think we still might be here at the six-hour mark...

    Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 4-3 Anderson*

Just what the doctor ordered. A nice, easy, pressure-free hold for Kyle Edmund.

He races into a 40-0 lead and, although Anderson dusts the corner with a dreamy forehand winner, the Brit finishes the game like me or you would finish a fish and chip dinner. Quickly, with barely time to breath, and no mess.

    *Murray 7-6 (10-8) 5-4 Del Potro

It's so handy, having a big serve that can get you out of any trouble, as Del Potro batters down his sixth ace of the set.

Murray somehow returns from deep on the right, spinning himself in circles, but he can't get forward to Del Potro's forehand drop shot. He's just found his rhythm again in these last few games, but Murray is just one game away.

    *Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 3-3 Anderson

Other than those two break points in the third set, which proved crucial, Kyle Edmund has not got anywhere near another. This would be a great time to do it.

Ah, or maybe the next one. Anderson wins three points on the bounce from 15-30 to ensure parity.

Del Potro will serve to keep himself in this second set. Murray has wrestled back control admirably well after that mammoth first set.

    Murray 7-6 (10-8) 5-3 Del Potro*

Murray's gone up another gear. A lazy shot has him looking a tad irked before he makes up for it with a brilliant volley, the ball landing with pinpoint accuracy on the baseline.

He's got Del Potro on the run now, smashing a forehand beyond him as Del Potro drops his racquet and stumbles on the floor. A magnificent response from Del Potro, battering down the line, goes begging as the world number 30 skews a return.

    Edmund 7-6 (8-6) 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 1-6 3-2 Anderson*

Someone has just paid Kyle Edmund's bounty. Or he is an escapologist on the quiet. Either way he gets out of jail as he survives three break points to hold.

A big roar from the Brit as he scampers around the ball to crack a inside-out forehand to safety. Anderson bites the rim of his racket in frustration.

That's 12 of 14 break points blown by the South African now. Edmund goes on to hold. On we go...

Oh, Delpo. A foot fault and a messy serve allow Murray to draw level without breaking step.

The Argentine gives himself a moment to regroup and then fires down consecutive big serves to get himself out of a little bit of trouble. Meanwhile, the dark clouds keep gathering overhead...
