"Come onnnnn!" That's the loudest yelp we've heard from Murray today, and it comes after Khachanov pushes a forehand into the tramlines at 30-30.

That gives further encouragement to Murray, who hammers a service winner down the T to move halfway to the third set.

I don't think it is much of a surprise that a calm and collected Andy Murray is able to breeze through matches. I mean, I'm not going to tell the world number one how to approach games but...just take it easy Andy.

Calm mind, calm body, and all that.

After being tetchy in his opening two matches at Roland Garros, the Scot has looked much more at ease against Delpo and now Khachanov.

The Russian tells Muzza that he's not going home in a hurry yet, a morale-boosting hold to love for the 21-year-old.

Fernando Verdasco is looking most likely to provide the quarter-final opposition for the winner of this match, having won the first set 6-0 against Kei Nishikori.

A Japanese media colleague did not sound confident before start of play. It is not Nishikori's wrist she was concerned about, but the back which needed treatment in his laboured five-set victory over Chung Hyeon in the fourth round.

Without wishing to count any poulet, Andy Murray's next opponent may become obvious quicker than we thought.

Over on the Suzanne-Lenglen court Fernando Verdasco has just taken the first set against Japanese eighth seed Kei Nishikori in 26 minutes.

Nishikori hit just two winners in the whole set.

    Murray 6-3 6-4 2-0 Khachanov*

No drama from Andy Murray. He races 40-0 ahead, and although Karen Khachanov intrudes with a vicious volley for 40-15, the Brit seals the hold when his opponent whacks a stretching forehand into the net.

Bathroom break for Mr Lendl, as Murray moves into a two-set lead.

Murray's first serve has picked up from Saturday and he is playing very smoothly again.

He has a great chance now to get this done in under two hours.

Initially there isn't much resistance from the Russian... three break points for Murray.

They have come out of nowhere. Well, they come from a double fault sandwiched in-between two feeble forehands from Khachanov.

The world number 53 battles back to deuce, but can't handle the heat.

Another unforced error - this time from the backhand - means Murray makes the perfect start to the third set.

Right then. Murray in three? Or Khachanov to provide some resistance?

Khachanov's favourite player growing up was Marat Safin, and there are plenty of similarities with his fellow Russian - the slow swagger between points, the fiddling with the chain around his neck, and above all, a massive game.

His forehand is approaching Del Potro levels, while his backhand looks as big as any two-hander out there. He just needs to hit the ball in a bit more.

Excellent stuff from Andy Murray. He's been like a lasagna so far at Roland Garros. A bit sloppy at first when it comes straight out of the oven, becoming firmer and tastier as time goes on.

Maybe there will still be leftovers for Team Murray on Sunday...

Because Sunday is the final? Doesn't quite work that does it?! Ah well...

    Murray 6-3 6-4 Khachanov

Is this a chance to peg Murray back? Khachanov goes 15-0 ahead with a wonderful forehand winner.

But Murray snatches the opportunity away quickly, an ace bailing him out on his way to two set points.

Khachanov can't provide any more resistance, drilling a forehand into the net.

Murray clenches his first, roars at his box and marches over to his seat for a well-earned glug of water.

The big news during that game is that the BBC Sport office has discovered you can get a five pack of jammie doughnuts for 50p these days. Bargain.

What's happening in Paris? Karen Khachanov keeps this set alive with a gutsy hold. Murray sees an opening at 30-30 but the Russian slams the door shut with a sizzler of a backhand winner.

    Over to you Andy...

A little test for Murray as he picks up a couple of balls. He lost his serve last time remember.

No drama this time. The British number one races 40-15 ahead, the game going his way when Khachanov balloons a forehand way over the baseline.

This match might be the big news back home but for the locals it is very match the appetiser, before the main course of home favourite Gael Monfils up against former champion Stan Wawrinka.

That might be why there is no sense of the crowd wanting Khachanov to get back into this one, rather a contented hum of conversation and the odd collective gasp.

Even Ivan Lendl just broke cover by taking his sunnies off to clean them, which counts as showboating for him.

    *Murray 6-3 4-3 Khachanov

What we were saying before about the first rule of breaking serve (see 12:31)? Khachanov has forgotten it.

He lays the break on a plate for Murray with some sloppy backhands and then another double fault.

A first sign of frustration from Murray as he yells towards his box after missing the first break point.

He doesn't miss the second. The pressure is on Khachanov... second serve... Murray bides his time... the Russian's backhand again his undoing as he hits the net.

Ah. Right on cue, Karen Khachanov breaks. The beach can wait. Or so he hopes.

Two unforced errors from Andy Murray bring up the Russian's first break point, can he take it?

Yes he can! Murray is scrambling on the baseline, and can only find the net with a forehand.

    As you were...

Khachanov looks like he could be chilling on the beach. Retina-burning board shorts, tight violet tee, snapback baseball cap.

He might be slapping on the sun cream tomorrow if he doesn't hurry up...

Ukrainian fifth seed Elina Svitolina fought back from 5-2 down in the final set to end the run of world number 290 Petra Martic.

Svitolina, who needed medical treatment for a back injury, will face Romania's Simona Halep in the quarter-finals.

Talking of quick service games, Khachanov follows suit. Anyone who left Chatrier for a loo-break might end up missing half a set at this rate.

A service winner, followed by a cracker of a backhand, followed by an overhead gets the Russian back on the board.
