It was four hours 30 minutes of absorbing stuff. Murray was lucky to sneak out of the first set and Wawrinka was lucky to sneak out of the fourth set.

It was a match that could have gone either way but there was no denying who was the better player in the fifth set.

Anyone fluent in French? My GCSE B grade can't decipher what the 2015 champion is saying.

Something about digging deep, I think.

That's 10 wins on the bounce for Wawrinka. Now he is one more from winning his fourth Grand Slam title.

After a four-and-a-half hour grueller, Stan Wawrinka has one job left to do - give his on-court interview.

I hope they give him a minute to get his breath back...

Murray has come such a long way in the last fortnight in Paris but Wawrinka was stronger at the end.

So that is Andy Murray's clay-court season over. And let's be honest - he performed much better in Paris than he, you or I imagined a fortnight ago.

A generous applause from the Chatrier crowd as the world number one waves goodbye to Roland Garros.

    Maybe next year...

    He only needs one.

Stan Wawrinka is through to his second French Open final after sealing victory with, yep, you've guessed it, a sublime backhand winner down the line.

What a match, what a victory for the third seed.

Murray battled gamely in that previous game, but his energy levels have sapped.

Murray's on the board. Another chance falls the world number one's way and he takes it after Stan makes an unforced error.

    This ain't over just yet.

Andy Murray has a look of resignation on his face. That's after he gamely claws his way 30-15 ahead, only to see Wawrinka belt an ace past him out wide.

Oh, hang on. Murray isn't goosed yet. A forehand winner gives him a break point...

You have got to give credit to Stan. He has improved his level throughout the match.

He looked in trouble in the fourth set but he came through it.

Murray is just a little heavy in his legs.

"Let's go!" If I had a pound for everytime we heard Murray shout that...

This time it has extra significance because, as he moves 30-0 up on Wawrinka's serve, he really needs to go. He needs to go real good.

But sloppily he allows Wawrinka to claw his way back to 30-30 with an unforced error, then bats a weak backhand into the net for 40-30.

Stan slams a serve down the middle, Murray sticks his racquet on it, but is powerless to get it back over the net.

Andy asks the question - "Was it out?" - but gets short shrift. It might have only been in by the width of cigarette paper, but it is in nonetheless...

Bishop Yinkus: Considering his form at the beginning of the season & where he is now, he has done well. Time to come back home Andy

Wawrinka is just a bit fresher at the moment.

His level of play in terms of hitting winners has been consistent whereas Murray has been up and down.

In the normal rally play Murray hasn't hit that many winners at all.

Nee-nor nee-nor nee-nor. The alarm bells are ringing in Andy Murray's mind.

Wawrinka takes that break point with brutal efficiency.

Stan prods his temple with an index finger as he looks up to his box.

"Hey, I'm mentally tough. You see?" might be the gist of it.
