    Murray 7-6 3-2 Paire

All the skill in the world as Benoit Paire runs around the ball to turn a forehand into a great backhand winner. He looks like he has found his level again after a difficult few games, holding to love.

    Murray 7-6 3-1 Paire

More Murray chuntering to himself as a fine Paire backhand return forces him to find the net and it's 15-30. Murray's turn to go for a drop shot and lands it like a dream, right on the line.

Wrong foots his man to win the game.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live

Murray is doing enough in these matches. In tennis, you only have to be better than your opponent.

I think he will go on to win this match.

As the opponents get tougher, Murray's game will need to improve.

I think he has to up his game.

    *Azarenka 6-7 (3-7) 0-5 Halep

Second seed Simona Halep is one game away from a meeting with Britain's Johanna Konta in the quarter-finals.

Halep, who will become world number one if she reaches the semi-finals, is in total control against Victoria Azarenka.

The Belarusian is playing only her second tournament after giving birth to her son Leo in December.

    Murray 7-6 2-1 Paire

An outrageous fluke off the top of the net cord helps Paire out before a wild, misguided drop shot lands nearly out of the court. He can't stop the drop shot! Loves it.

He then smashes a backhand halfway up the net to go 30-30, before a flying volley at the net lands just out. Deuce.

He throws in an ace and celebrates, then another ace to hold on. A right box of oddities.

A routine hold for Andy Murray, who appears in no mood to hang about in this second set. Benoit Paire needs to rediscover his touch. Fast.

  9. 'Very little between us today'published at 15:33 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Konta 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 6-4 Garcia

Johanna Konta speaking on BBC One: "It was such a tough match to play, she is in impressive form, it's hard to get any rhythm when she's serving so well and gets her first strike in.

"I was happy that I was able to get enough returns in that final game, I was trying to stay light on my feet and strong in my body.

"There was very little between us today, I was happy to be able to compete and not pay too much attention to the good things she was doing but pay attention to the good things I was doing.

"When I was a little girl, and even now, I dreamt of being in these battles and on the big stages."

    Murray 7-6 1-0 Paire

Paire opens up the serving in the second set, and starts with a double fault. He looks so languid, bordering on resigned. Is that unfair?

0-30 after a lazy-looking chip wide. He then miscues a shot totally to go 0-40 and gift Murray an early break chance.

    Long. All over the shop.

    *Azarenka 6-7 (3-7) 0-3 Halep

After current world number one Angelique Kerber lost earlier today, the door is open for Romania's Simona Halep to take over the top spot.

She needs to reach the semi-finals to do so and is currently in charge in her last-16 match against Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.

Halep won the opening set on a tie-break and is a break of serve up in the second. The winner of this one will be up against Britain's Johanna Konta in the quarter-finals.

    Tracy Austin
Former Wimbledon mixed doubles champion on BBC TV

Phenomenal match from Jo Konta, stayed so focused, so calm in the big moments. I absolutely loved her reaction when she won, a look of happiness but also relief.

This is a dream of a young girl, to get to the quarters is when you really start to feel that you are within touching distance of the final.

The key for Murray is to start where he left off in the tie-breaker. He is well advised to push the buttons a little bit.

    Murray 7-6 Paire

So much of elite sport is psychological, and you could have a field day analysing Benoit Paire I bet, based on that first set. All the talent in the world, but scatty. Some of his shot selections seemed to baffle even himself. Murray was in trouble at 2-4 down but was always in the game. Stayed in it.

  16. What is it like to be number one?published at 15:27 British Summer Time 10 July 2017

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Victoria Azarenka knows. She might be the current world number 683 after taking a year off through injury and then to have son Leo, but she has spent 51 weeks as number one, topping the rankings for the first time in 2012.

Second seed Simona Halep might find out soon too. She knows the accolade of being the best in the world is getting close, especially after taking that tie-break.

There might be a gulf between their official rankings but there is not much between these players on court two, however - particularly when it comes to volume. Azarenka is one of tennis's noisiest grunters but the Romanian is matching her decibel for decibel and made even more noise when she celebrated taking that first set.

    Jonathan Jurejko
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Wimbledon does the strangest of things to people, even the ice-cool Johanna Konta.

The British number one, who usually shows less emotion than a poker player, drops to the grass in triumphant celebration. Simultaneously the home fans jump to their feet.

"She's going to win the thing!" exclaims one lady behind the press seats.

Wonder if Virginia Wade is getting nervous yet...
