The upside to a rain delay? You can start smashing through your lunch.

The lids of sealed plastic boxes have popped, tin foil has been scrunched.

Many are still sat inside Court Two as they patiently wait for the restart. It shouldn't be long, the covers are off.

But another dark cloud is creeping into view...

    Mannarino 2-6 5-5 Djokovic*

    Hello, 25 shot rally!

Mannarino comes out on top as he takes a second to leap on to a forehand, which sails past an outstretched Djokovic. He ends up doing the splits. Ouch.

The Frenchman holds with another beauty of a forehand.

Umbrellas and ponchos are being unleashed and brandished by the hardy spectators on Court One.

    The covers are coming on.

    Rain.

    Muguruza v Kuznetsova

You feel for the players in this situation. Pacing up and down a corridor, waiting to get a quarter-final under way, At the moment, it's playable.

But the cameras pan up and the sky is black overhead. It's going to hammer it down any minute now. They could be playing now though.

    Faffing.

Djokovic wanted to play some of the match last night - he wanted to store some energy reserves, because the winner has to play tomorrow.

    *Mannarino 2-6 3-4 Djokovic

    This just got interesting.

Djokovic double faults for the first time in this match and gifts Mannarino two break points.

The Serb leathers an ace down court to save one but then the pair enter a ridiculously long rally and Djokovic finds the net after trying to get on a Mannarino drop shot.

The Frenchman will now serve to level the set.

    Muguruza v Kuznetsova

What does Svetlana Kuznetsova listen to just before a big match? We shall never know as she prowls the corridors just off Court One.

Rage Against The Machine I reckon.

The court is all set up for play again.

  11. Rain delay! Sort ofpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 11 July 2017

    Muguruza v Kuznetsova

We were told yesterday that it was due to rain at 1300 BST and the forecasters were pretty much spot on. Just before play is due to start on Court One the rain comes down and the groundstaff scurry to take down the nets and put the covers on.

It doesn't look too heavy though. Plenty of fans still seated. Could be an on/off day. In fact the covers are now off...

Djokovic is not happy with the court. He's like a batsman, patting the ground as they come to the crease.

"Why did we come on the worst day?!" moans one lady as she scurries away from court two.

Yep, you've guessed it. Another rain delay halts the progress of Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis.

You do have to feel sorry for those who are turning up at Wimbledon for the first time today. Protective cream have been swapped for protective ponchos.

    Mannarino 2-6 2-4 Djokovic*

Djokovic mucks up a drop shot to hand Mannarino at 40-15 lead.

The Frenchman tries to finish off the game with a forehand down the line. He challenges the out call, but he's wrong.

He does hold, though, when Djokovic sends wide after a Mannarino smash.

    *Mannarino 2-6 1-4 Djokovic

Djokovic absolutely cruises through his next service game, playing some beautiful strokes, while also finding time to moan about the court condition again.

    Impressive multi-tasking.

    Mannarino 2-6 1-3 Djokovic*

A relatively easy hold of serve for Mannarino gets him off the mark in this set.

He's still holding different bits of his anatomy, as if he's in pain all over. Remember, the Frenchman has had to deal with two five-setters on the way to this match, so his body might be a bit broken.

    *Mannarino 2-6 0-3 Djokovic

Another scintillating baseline rally ends when Djokovic nets. It's 30-30.

Same again on the next point, only it's Mannarino who nets this time.

Djokovic is kneeling down, muttering to himself and looking frustrated at the dry grass under his feet.

But he gets back up and forehands down the line to hold.

Novak Djokovic has adopted the role of the uncompromising PE teacher, who is making his pupil - Mannarino - do shuttle runs all over the court until he is breathless.
