Two years ago, Johanna Konta, approaching middle age in tennis terms at 24, was so lightly thought of as a championship contender that she required wildcards to play in Nottingham and Birmingham.

She had begun that year ranked 150th in the world, and would end her Wimbledon exactly where she had in each of the preceding three years - going out in the first round, the forgotten final paragraph of a report on someone else.

A late arrival, a worthy contender. For an unexpected star, Britain now expects.

Johanna Konta has the same demeanour during her morning hit as she has had all fortnight.

Smiley, relaxed... focused. The British number one has a quick chat at the net with coaches Wim Fissette and Andrew Fitzpatrick then warms up with a few gentle forehands.

The narrow gangways around court eight are packed with fans, journalists and grounds staff, all armed with cameras - on their mobiles or on a tripod - clicking away at Konta.

"Go on Joooooo!" shouts a female voice. Not even sure the sixth seed heard.

From relative obscurity a couple of years ago, Johanna Konta's meteoric rise up the rankings over the last couple of years made her known to tennis fans but this year's Wimbledon has seen the 26-year-old come to the attention of the nation.

Her face is across the front and back pages of this morning's newspapers and her quarter-final win over Simona Halep attracted the biggest television audience of the tournament so far.

Is this the year of JoKo? Can she win her first Grand Slam title?

The weather has been near perfect for Wimbledon so far with only one day of significant rain and interruptions on Tuesday. Today will be another dry one with warm sunny spells and a top temperature of 23 degrees.

As for Friday’s forecast, it’s another dry one. Subtle difference will be a bit more cloud and a bit more breezy making it feel a tad fresher at 22 degrees.

A healthy crowd has already gathered around court eight, one of the snug playing areas in the shadow of Centre.

Why? Because all eyes are trained on this young man. He's Aidan McHugh, a 17-year-old from Glasgow.

McHugh is pals with the Murray brothers, hitting with world number one Andy over the Wimbledon fortnight. Not bad practice for the boys singles eh?

He's currently playing France's Matteo Martineau in the third round, with the tennis-hungry fans hoping they are watching a future British star.

If anyone predicted these four women's semi-finals before the tournament then I want them to choose my lottery numbers.

The quartet have eight Grand Slam titles between them, seven of those won by Venus Williams and one for Garbine Muguruza.

Johanna Konta is in just her second Slam semi-final and Magdalena Rybarikova her first.
