  1. Norrie through as Tursunov retirespublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

    Norrie 7-6 (9-7) 6-1 Tursunov

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport at Flushing Meadows

It's pretty blustery out on Court 14 but Cameron Norrie - who has swapped his orange shirt for white - handles it beautifully, recovering from a loss of serve at the start of the second set with four straight games.

Tursunov then calls for the trainer at 7-6 4-1 down to get some strapping on his right knee. The Russian is ranked 645th as a result of numerous injuries and it looks a long way back when he immediately drops serve again.

A discreet fist pump from Norrie, a quick service game and he's one set from round two. Tursunov troops back to his chair looking less than primed for a fight back, and duly calls it a day as Norrie goes over to celebrate with his team.

    *Edmund 6-3 7-5 2-1 Haase

Momentum is firmly with Kyle Edmund now. The heavy-hitting Briton continues to look in great shape as he breaks Robin Haase's serve at the first opportunity in the third set, going on to hold before the Dutch 32nd seed gets on the scoreboard with a morale-boosting hold to love. Boy, Haase needed that.

  5. Watson brokenpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

    Watson 4-6 4-5 Cornet*

Alize Cornet does not gift any easy points and she gets Watson to deuce.

The Brit just doesn't look comfortable out there and double faults again, but it doesn't cost her the game.

However, a weak volley gives Cornet a break point and Watson then nets a backhand to gift the game to the world number 46.

    Norrie 7-6 (9-7) 4-1 Tursunov

Cameron Norrie is flying! There are more breaks at the start of the second set than there is in your local A&E ward, the young Briton taking two of them to Dmitri Tursunov's one as he races ahead.

  7. Game and second set - Edmundpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

    Edmund 6-3 7-5 Haase

Well, this has escalated quickly. After breaking Edmund's serve, Robin Haase hands it straight back in a dog's dinner of a game.

Two double faults by Haase, who throws in an ace for good measure, helps Edmund sneak 6-5 ahead and gives another chance to serve out for this second set.

Haase is FURIOUS! With himself, that is. He lets his anger be heard with a loud shout of something that doesn't sound too pleasant.

His head's gone. And he can't refocus as Edmund crashes out a hold to love to take a two-set lead.

  8. Watson breaks backpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

    *Watson 4-6 4-4 Cornet

Alize Cornet double faults and Watson then deservedly wins a rally as the Brit goes to 30-0.

She goes to 40-15 with a crunching forehand into the corner and then takes the game, getting the better of Cornet in another lengthy rally.

Huge shout of "come on" from Watson.

She is back level in the set and now has the opportunity to get her nose in front for the first time in this match.

After questioning a line call (see 17:22 entry) - "I'm not having that" - Kyle Edmund apologises if it came across at all aggressive. Nice boy.

  10. Haase breaks backpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

    Edmund 6-3 5-5 Haase*

No-one said this was going to be easy for Kyle Edmund. The British number two is serving to take a two-set lead but sees Robin Haase crack a forehand winner for 15-15 which changes the momentum of the game. Edmund sees off a break point, not the second.

    As you were.

    Watson 4-6 3-4 Cornet*

Heather Watson's service game is looking shot to pieces.

She double faults twice in succession, her fourth in a row, as Cornet takes a 30-0 lead.

But she digs in deep and wins four points in a row to stop the rot and somehow manages to hold.

    *Watson 4-6 2-4 Cornet

Back to square one for Watson who has to do it all over again just to stay in this match.

A perfect service game for Cornet who holds to love and is now two games away from the next round.

Huge service game for Watson now.

    Edmund 6-3 5-3 Haase*

Sensational. Kyle Edmund looks in a bit of bother as he trails 40-0 on his own serve, immediately after breaking Robin Haase. But he digs deep to fight back, rattling off five points on the bounce to hold.

Haase has the body language of a petulant teenager who has been grounded ahead of the school disco. Shoulders shrugged, arms flailing, face scrunched.

    Watson 4-6 2-3 Cornet*

It's tense out on court four.

Alize Cornet takes Watson to deuce.

The Brit's first serve has been getting her out of jail in this game, but she then double faults to give Cornet a break point

    Disaster.

Watson double faults again and she gifts the game to Cornet.

  16. Norrie takes controlpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 28 August 2017

    Piers Newbery
    BBC Sport at Flushing Meadows

Cameron Norrie, decked out in orange and black, lets out a huge "C'mon!" and punches the air as he toughs out a tense first set tie-break against Dmitry Tursunov. The British player saves set point when Tursunov puts a forehand millimetres wide and converts his second as the Russian sends one long.

Norrie has a lot more matches under his belt than the injury-prone Tursunov and will see this a great chance to claim his first main draw win at a Slam.

After a few minutes of drama, the end of the set brings a change of atmosphere as fans drift off to the nearby food stalls. The aroma of burger hangs heavy over Court 14.

    Edmund 6-3 4-3 Haase*

Kyle Edmund has put himself in a strong position to see off 32nd seed Robin Haase. Not only is the Briton a set up, he is now a break up too.

Edmund has a pop at the umpire over a line call ruled in the Dutchman's favour, but channels that negative energy perfectly to win the break.

    *Watson 4-6 2-2 Cornet

Heather Watson desperately needs to get something off the Cornet serve.

    This is her chance

Three straight points for the Brit gives her, her first break points of the match.

The first one she wastes, sending a backhand long, but she wins the next to break back and level the set at 2-2.

    Momentum shift?
