Kyle: Brilliant performance from Pera so far but confident Konta will turn it around. No need to panic yet
*Konta 4-6 0-0 Pera
Johanna Konta only had a 43% win ratio on her first serve in that opening set.
Bernarda Pera only managed to get two first serves in, but was successful from both.

I think Konta needs to get back into her routine, she's at her best when she's almost robotic.

Konta's face is full of confusion and frustration at the moment, trying to find the answers.
*Konta 4-6 0-0 Pera
Konta cracks the net, she's not impressed, and the frustration is added to by a well-taken Pera winner that kisses the line.
Two set points for the American.
She only needs one, darting to the net and watching a Konta backhand drift harmlessly long.
Konta 4-5 Pera*
Bernarda Pera then, serving for the first set.
Johanna Konta gets an early point on the board to give herself a chance of overturning the break, but then drags a backhand return wide on the far side.

There are three places you can serve. If someone is returning as well from both sides as Pera is doing here, use the body.
Konta 4-5 Pera*
And that's the break for the American!
Work on for Johanna Konta to save this first set.
*Konta 4-4 Pera
Bernarda Pera attacks Johanna Konta's first serve again and claws her way to 0-30 up.
And then a stunning shot to demolish Konta's second serve! Pera just sizes it up, and hammers a forehand beyond the Brit.
David Law
Radio 5 live sports extra commentator at Melbourne Park
She's looking ever so slightly flustered here, Konta.
*Konta 4-4 Pera
Very, very nice from Bernarda Pera. Pushing Konta wide off the serve and, just as the Briton looks to return to centre court, sliding a left-hand winner into the spot she just came from.
Konta 4-3 Pera*
Johanna Konta's just had another chat with the umpire during the changeover, think she thought Bernarda Pera had stopped thinking the Briton had won the point, only for it to be called long.
Anyway, back to the Pera serve - the American scoots into a 30-0 lead, and then forces Konta wide with a swinging left-hander that the ninth seed cannot wrap her racquet around.

A slightly scratchy start from Konta and despite the building heat, there’s a bit of a breeze on show court two. We’re in the shadow of Margaret Court Arena, and the court is sunk into the ground, perfect conditions for a furnace. Not surprisingly, the shady side of the court is packed with spectators, while an increasing number of brave souls are slapping on the sunscreen and basting themselves in the full glare.
First set to Maria Sharapova against Anastasija Sevastova, taking it 6-1 in just 23 minutes.
The Russian did win the first set against the Latvian in the US Open though and Sevastova came back to win in three.
Konta 4-3 Pera*
The British number one steadies herself, and takes the point with a lengthy forehand to the Pera backhand - 40-30.
"Come on," she screams, holding serve with a ferocious forehand winner with Pera planted to the spot.
*Konta 3-3 Pera
Neat, swiveling backhand winner from Johanna Konta as she draws the ball from one corner of the court to the other, with Bernarda Pera only able to acknowledge it on its way past.
Konta thinks she's caught the baseline with another huge backhand after Pera frames a return, but its long.
Konta has a word with the umpire - a touch of frustration?
Maria Sharapova has made a fast start on Rod Laver - she leads Anastasija Sevastova 4-1 and is yet to lose a point on serve.
Fifth seed Dominic Thiem also has an early break on Margaret Court, leading Denis Kudla 3-0.
*Konta 3-3 Pera
Another Johanna Konta challenge, this time from Bernarda Pera's serve, but it's postage stamp stuff from the American - right on the T.
Konta's return on the next point is loose and long, and Pera holds.
Konta 3-2 Pera*
Konta does well to pick a deep Pera stroke up from around her feet, and then opens up with a forehand that the American is slow to reach.
The left-hander's second serve kicks up at Konta and the British number one can only catch the tape with her return, before sending the next one long.

Great movement from Jo, she's such a great athlete. I remember seeing her in the gym a few years ago and she's worked really hard on that side of her game.
