    *Dimitrov 3-3 Kyrgios

Wonderfully taken winner from Nick Kyrgios, dancing around a slow return to fire a forehand winner.

He takes it to advantage and cracks another deep forehand in to hold serve.

    Dimitrov 3-2 Kyrgios*

Nick Kyrgios nails a mammoth serve to the Dimitrov forehand and punishes the return to save the first.

The 22-year-old brings it back to deuce, but flaps at a midcourt Dimitrov backhand. Another break point.

    Dimitrov 3-2 Kyrgios*

Delightful from Dimitrov, who loops a lob over Kyrgios towards the baseline.

But the Australian isn't done yet, those through-the-leg shots he was practicing in the warm up come in handy, sprinting backwards and hammering one through his pins.

Dimitrov meets it at the net. Great point. And now the Bulgarian has two break points.

    Dimitrov 3-2 Kyrgios*

A few first set stats to whet the appetite. 3-4 on aces to Kyrgios, and two double faults for Dimitrov to Kyrgios' none.

The Australian also has won 88% of points on his first serve, to the Bulgarian's 69%.

    Dimitrov 3-2 Kyrgios*

How did Dimitrov pick that up?! Dipping low to his left, the third seed whips his racquet over the top of the ball to spin a backhand down the line.

Kyrgios is challenging the next point. A little confusion as to whether that was called in or out - Hawk Eye says "out".

But Dimitrov holds and leads 3-2.

    *Dimitrov 2-2 Kyrgios

Must say, there's some noise between points. A rowdy home crowd at Rod Laver Arena.

All hand clapping and chanting, it's like a summer camp day out.

Dimitrov responds with a little fist pump and a "come on" after a searing winner down the line - 30-15.

    *Dimitrov 2-2 Kyrgios

Kyrgios pens Dimitrov into the top corner of the court, working his opponent like a boxer - jab, jab, finisher.

Dimitrov can't make it off the canvas, he finds the tape and the Australian holds.

    Dimitrov 2-1 Kyrgios*

The tall, gangly frame of Nick Kyrgios seems to close off the court to Grigor Dimitrov, but the Australian sends a sloppy backhand into the tramlines - the first chink in his armour today.

He responds by slinging down an unstoppable ace.

    Dimitrov 2-1 Kyrgios*

Grigor Dimitrov ups the intensity slightly and that proves enough to shake off Nick Kyrgios.

It remains on serve after three games.

Some of Kyrgios' behaviour has been pretty outrageous but kids love him. There's a real feeling of warmth when he's with the mascots. He's very gentle, asks them their name and pays them attention.

    *Dimitrov 1-1 Kyrgios

No messing about from Dimitrov early in this service game.

The Bulgarian fires his way into a 30-0 lead, but Kyrgios responds with a fizzing crosscourt forehand that the Bulgarian can only slam into the net.

And another huge forehand from the Australian. He's getting the better of Dimitrov when given the chance to engage him.

    Lovely.

Nick Kyrgios whips a forehand winner into the space vacated by Grigor Dimitrov to hold serve.

    Dimitrov 1-0 Kyrgios*

The Aussie crowd is already in full voice.

Nick Kyrgios cranks the volume up a notch with a hammer of a serve that proves too hot for Grigor Dimitrov to handle.

    Punchy stuff from the Canberra-born 17th seed - 40-15.

It has only been a few points but this is a different Nick Kyrgios from what we have seen in the other rounds. He is energised and excited to be out there. We don't always see that but boy does it make him dangerous.

    Dimitrov 1-0 Kyrgios*

Nice from Grigor Dimitrov, wrong-footing Nick Kyrgios like a footballer giving the opposition goalkeeper the eyes off the penalty spot.

A second deuce, but Dimitrov claws his way to advantage and then holds serve.

Dimitrov needs a good start because his confidence has been rattled in the last couple of weeks since he lost against Kyrgios in Brisbane.

I would have always said style-wise Dimitrov's game matches up well against the Australian but there have been fragilities about his game.

    *Dimitrov 0-0 Kyrgios

A first double fault from the third seed. Still getting his eye in?

Nick Kyrgios goes on the attack from the next point, pushing the Bulgarian wide and drifting in to the net to volley a winner.

    And that's deuce!
