Bit of a kit clash out on Rod Laver Arena.

Grigor Dimitrov in what I'm going to call salmon, Nick Kyrgios also in what I'm still calling salmon...

The Bulgarian gets the first points on the board, and then gets the better of a cracking rally that has Nick Kyrgios sprawling across court - 30-0.

    Dimitrov v Kyrgios

The last time Nick Kyrgios reached the Australian Open quarter-finals, he was just 19 years old, and ran into an in-form Andy Murray.

If he makes the last eight for a second time it'll be to face another Brit, after Kyle Edmund saw off Andreas Seppi earlier.

Standing between him and a place in the second week this time around is Grigor Dimitrov, a player he has already beaten this year.

Dimitrov arrived in Brisbane earlier this month as the defending champion, but it was Kyrgios who prevailed 3-6 6-1 6-4 in their semi-final

Kyrgios hasn't beaten a top 20 player at a Slam since he knocked Milos Raonic - then world number eight - out of Wimbledon in 2015. Can that change today?

    Dimitrov v Kyrgios

Here's what Nick Kyrgios had to say before his last 16 outing:

"I feel like I am making improvements, the last couple of years I don't feel like I have been physically ready.

"Mentally I am a lot better as well.

"I know it's going to be incredibly tough, but I'm not thinking about that right now."

    Dimitrov v Kyrgios

Nick Kyrgios sailed through the opening two rounds without losing a set, seeing off Brazil's Rogerio Dutra da Silva 6-1 6-2 6-2, before knocking out Viktor Troicki 7-5 6-4 7-6 (7-2).

    Fifteenth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga followed, with Kyrgios taking a belter at Rod Laver Arena 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-5).

Grigor Dimitrov made short work of Dennis Novak, beating the Austrian 6-3 6-2 6-1, before squeezing past Mackenzie McDonald in an epic five-setter.

The Bulgarian third seed's third-round meeting with Andrey Rublev was a little less taxing, winning 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4.

It's not often Rafael Nadal plays the warm up act at a Grand Slam.

The Spaniard saw off Diego Schwartzman in four sets earlier, but it's a young Australian who tops the bill at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday as his country's only representative in the last 16.

A home favourite? Nick Kyrgios can excite and infuriate in equal measure, but the 22-year-old's outings are rarely dull.

He faces third seed Grigor Dimitrov. A nation holds its breath...

Kyle Edmund is off for an ice bath. It is now time to find out who he will play in the quarter-final.

It'll either be Nick Kyrgios or Grigor Dimitrov.

Alex Bysouth is here to talk you through it. It should be a cracker.

Edmund is building his level slowly and learning what it takes in these massive events. It would be a big shock to see him beat Dimitrov or Kyrgios in the next round because it feels like he has put such a major effort in to get here.

Asked about whether he felt more pressure with Andy Murray's absence in Melbourne: "It is more of a shame Andy isn't here. You play for your nation but are here playing for yourself. Nothing changes in terms of preparation.

"Hopefully we have more British players here in the future. For me I am just happy to get through and I know people are getting up at silly hours in the morning so I am grateful for that."

Edmund's first serve is a major weapon, the forehand when it's on song is almost unplayable and the backhand has improved.

I think there's still a lot more to come from him.

Kyle Edmund after reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-final: "It was a close first set and I didn't feel I got the best start. He was hitting the ball very clean. In the second set I tried to shift the momentum and once I broke him in the last game of the second set I took control of the match.

"He plays very well here. He has reached the fourth round a few times and is playing very well but so was I. Through to my first quarter-final - I am very happy."

Kyle Edmund started this week with the best win of his career against Kevin Anderson, the highest-ranked opponent he had beaten.

Now he has completed the biggest win of his career to reach a Slam quarter-final for the first time.

He'll play either Nick Kyrgios or Grigor Dimitrov in the last eight.

This is a big deal. When I first saw Kyle Edmund I thought he might one day reach a Grand Slam quarter-final but I said that not with massive confidence. But he's done it ahead of schedule and although he has had a good draw, he is a better player than we thought he might be.

That was so, so good from Kyle Edmund. He hit 63 winners and 25 aces. He just keeps getting better.

Edmund is the first British man, other than Andy Murray, to reach a Grand Slam quarter-final since 2004.
