    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 4-3 Wozniacki*

How about that?! Halep's backhand looked to be going a long way wide, clips the frame holding up the net and drops back into the court.

Wozniacki sprints in to try and return it, but can't lift a forehand over the tape.

    Halep holds.

Halep looks OK running but is a little bit sluggish in between points.

    *Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-3 Wozniacki

Precision stuff from Simona Halep, sliding into the net and winning her eighth point from nine attempts in that position.

Another forehand winner after Caroline Wozniacki pops one up off the tape, and that's 40-15.

    *Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-3 Wozniacki

A good response from Wozniacki, who scrambles back to 40-30.

Halep attacks a sliced second serve, but goes long and looks to be limping slightly.

She challenges the call, but it's way off target.

    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-2 Wozniacki*

Caroline Wozniacki is bouncing around, a ball of energy on her serve, but Simona Halep finds a wonderfully-placed backhand return from somewhere to force the Dane into the net.

The world number two follows up with a double fault - 15-30.

It has been a pretty uncomfortable day here, even for those of us not running around, and the temperature is still over 30C with humidity around 50%. Facing Wozniacki in such conditions is a bit of a nightmare, as a lot of running is required.

The heat rule is in play this evening I believe, so if we get to a third set, there will be a 10-minute break before the decider.

    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-2 Wozniacki*

Halep also has the ice towel around her neck, and is taking on plenty of water.

I'm sure Caroline Wozniacki won't be too disappointed about having a breather either.

The world number one is back on her feet, Wozniacki to serve...

    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-2 Wozniacki*

I think Simona Halep is saying she feels dizzy. She's having her blood pressure taken at the side of the court.

It's been a punishing one hour and 19 minutes in the Melbourne heat.

    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 3-2 Wozniacki*

The world number one edges to a 30-15 lead on her service game, and then forces Wozniacki wide with a punchy forehand.

But now it looks like Halep is calling for the physio? She holds... let's see what happens here.

    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 2-1 Wozniacki*

Efficient from Wozniacki, as far as games in this final go...

She moves to 40-0, before popping a sloppy forehand long.

I take that efficient comment back, that's a nervy double fault - 40-30.

    Halep 6-7 (2-7) 2-1 Wozniacki*

How important will that epic 11-minute game turn out to be?

Caroline Wozniacki will be keen to hold serve in much quicker fashion, and she rattles off a speedy second serve to make it 15-0, following up with an ace.

Halep was down 5-2 in the first and started accelerating through the ball more aggressively but this set has been a bit up and down.

She needs to do it more consistently and use the angles to keep Wozniacki on the run.

This game has passed the 10-minute mark, and it's Wozniack with a loose response this time that lands in the tramlines, just.

    Advantage Halep.

Wozniacki can't get enough on another well-timed drop shot from the Romanian, she holds.

    Composure when it matters.

Deft, composed hands from Halep, teasing Wozniacki with the subtlest of drop shots.

This is remarkable, we've seen just about every shot in the book in this game alone.

Now it's Caroline Wozniacki's turn for a wonderful winner, a curling backhand for a fourth break point.

Fire off the racquet of Simona Halep, flinging down a huge first serve.

The Romanian meets a Wozniacki drop volley on the next point and looks to pick her spot, but she goes agonisingly long.

The world number one cracks a backhand into the net after a superb Wozniacki pick-up from deep.

    Another break point.

That's aggressive from Simona Halep, shuffling forward with every exchange and taking advantage of a Caroline Wozniacki that loops into the air off the tape.

    Deuce.

And now Halep is on the front foot, Wozniacki can only fling a return into the guts of the net.
