The second one was a fantastic pick-up. Cilic is looking up in the air and he doesn't know where his opponent is running to. With the last string of his racquet he finds it.

    Federer 6-2 2-2 Cilic*

A long way wide from Marin Cilic off his backhand side, and he's having words with himself after that one.

That's unbelievable from Roger Federer, somehow he keeps the point alive with some returns from deep behind the baseline before Cilic hammers a smash home.

    Almost like an exhibition match!

Martin Little: Would Roger Federer look out of place being in a Marvel film? I'm convinced he's not human.

Fed got his fans to mock some of these up on Twitter a few weeks ago! Marvel-lous.

All frame, no game for Roger Federer. He flicks a misjudged forehand into the tramlines.

This time Marin Cilic closes out, coming out on top of a fist-pump worthy backhand exchange.

    Federer 6-2 1-1 Cilic*

That's a lovely forehand winner from Cilic, wrong-footing Federer with speed and precision.

Anything you can do... the defending champion nails a backhand down the line that Cilic cannot get anywhere near.

    Deuce number five.

I've never seen Roger stretch. Really. I don't know if he has a bike in his changing room but he seems to just go straight into his press conference after a match.

He's picked the right parents - he's got genetics on his side!

A delicately sliced backhand from Roger Federer, but it drifts long.

Marin Cilic misses his first serve, throws over a whipping second effort but goes wide with the follow up backhand.

    We're back to deuce.

That's right on the whites of the line from Marin Cilic after the Croat challenges an out call on his first serve.

A shake of the head from Federer, another ground stroke drifts long. He's human after all..

But he rallies back to deuce. Cilic just can't close out the game.

A little bit of frustration from the defending champion? He pops a backhand long and glances towards his box.

Cilic can't pull a backhand from deep on target from the next point - 30-15.

A great service game to get out of then from Federer.

The second serve is very good. Another one right into the body on the line. They don't have to be fast but they have to be deep to be effective.
