Barty's difficult start hasn't dampened the enthusiasm of one group of home fans just next to the media seats.
There are about 20 of them, all wearing those aforementioned yellow 'Aussie!' tees, jumping to their feet and chanting after every game.
A rendition of “If you love Ash Barty, clap your hands!” after she gets on the scoreboard ends with much of Laver enthusiastically joining in at the end.

It's an incredible performance. There's not much Barty could have done, really. She's just been forced on to the back foot.
