    Wawrinka 3-2 *Federer

The first break point hoves into view as Roger Federer works up a 30-40 look a the Stan Wawrinka tee-off.

A big service winner gets Wawrinka off the hook and he corners Federer on ropes with whopping, whipping backhands to complete his escape.

    Konta 2-1 Stephens*

Johanna Konta attacks the net and pirouettes into a fierce volley that dashes beyond Sloane Stephens before the seventh seed can react. A good hold from the British number one.

After Stan Wawrinka was taken to deuce in the opening game, serve has dominated over on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

    *Konta 1-1 Stephens

Just taking a little warming up, Johanna Konta. She wraps a forehand into the tramlines but then gets her eye in with a baseline-kissing winner to make it 30-15.

Sloane Stephens is a natural athlete, she's so fast around the court and is able to run around to set up shots on her big forehand.

    *Konta 1-1 Stephens

Lovely change up from Stephens there on serve, sliding in a slower ball like a Test bowler and catching Konta off guard - the American holds.

    Konta 1-0 Stephens*

Sloane Stephens soaks up the Johanna Konta attack from the baseline as she edges to 30-0, before cracking a loose forehand into the guts of the net.

Good depth from the American as Konta is then forced to go long.

Johanna will be looking to serve to Stephens' backhand a lot as that's the side Sloane will hurt her less on her returns.

Oops, the double fault jitters from Jo... she could do without those. Luckily for the British number one she quickly shakes them off to rattle down a couple of meaty serves and edge back in front before firing long on her forehand side. Konta just can't quite close this out.

A gentle round of applause from a sparse Chatrier as Konta opens up the match.

The upper tier is about 50% full in my guesstimation, the lower tier - where the hospitality seats are - is probably 30%.

Not a good look for Roland Garros and a common theme this fortnight.

It's important to have a good start where nerves can play a part in a big match. Hopefully Jo can get over those quickly.

Break point saved by Konta and she gets the better of a lengthy exchange off the next point to move ahead in her opening service game for the first time.

Nice down-the-T ace from Johanna Konta to level things up at 30-30, but Sloane Stephens then saunters into the net to volley beyond the British number one.

A chance to break for the seventh seed.

Former British number one Jo Durie - the last British woman to reach the Roland Garros last four in 1983 - says she would be "very happy" for Konta if she emulated her feat.

"Johanna has worked out a way to use her game on the clay to really good effect," Durie, 58, told BBC Sport.

"She's worked very hard to get back to this kind of standard."

If you're sat back in Blighty thinking Roland Garros will be awash with Union Jack-inspired colours, then you'd be wrong.

Wandering around Chatrier I didn't spot any Brits. Or hear any.

Instead there are plenty of Swiss fans trying to swap their Chatrier tickets for ones on Lenglen...
